Sadly, I have to edit my review and say Goodbye to this place. Reasons are for consistently inconsistent food and erratic poor service which I had to deal with way too often, and business practices with ever shifting menus and raising prices very regularly.
Some people just aren't assertive enough to run a restaurant and manage employees. You can't keep treating your customers like this, regularly raising prices over and over to compensate for your lack of business skills. I would like to say it's greed but it's just not. Throwing more money at problems isn't going to make them go away. But your customers will.
The latest change which is the nail in the coffin for me is completely removing the lunch special which was a slightly smaller portion weekdays for $9.95 (size was just right for lunch), that came with egg roll. NO more, it's gone. So am I.
We ate here 15 to 20 times a month too. Sometimes for dinner... Sugar, the owner, has good curry when things work out. It's just such a struggle and you never know what you're going to get, if it's good that day, who's cooking or what kind of service headaches you're going to have to put up with. She just doesn't know how to run a business. It's a top down problem. Mama toy (her mother) would not put up with this. She's was in Thailand for the Winter while the place falls apart.
So... After removing the lunch special, this means you are paying the full dinner prices all day long with slightly larger portions, but not much larger. They really just give you a bigger bowl with more curry and charge more to use that bowl It's a cash grab.
Not only did she remove the lunch special, she also took the opportunity and raised the price of Red Curry $1 ...so now it is $14.95 for Veggie, Tofu, Chicken and Pork. Anything else, like seafood, is even more. This isn't Brentwood. Nobody from Brentwood comes to Antioch and especially not to this corner, I guarantee you. And Thai food needs to be eaten fresh and hot. It doesn't travel well. Anyway, I digress....
After two people eating, that is $33 for lunch BEFORE tip bringing total to $40 with a 20% tip. $20 per person for curry is making them close to the most expensive fast casual Thai in Nashville (which is probably Thai Esane, btw) and while this place tastes good many days (only if you dine in), its NOTHING SPECIAL in comparison to other family owned Thai as I can name 3 other places not in such a sketchy corner without really trying that are consistently and equally good/better food for FAIR money and those places have a lunch special.
Veggie Red Curry is simply not worth $15 anywhere, any day of the week. The lack of value for what you get and inconsistency you put up with steals the enjoyment from going here.
As I mentioned, I have other choices with Thai lunch specials of Red Curry in the $11.95 range which includes egg roll and so this, sadly, is Goodbye. It will be interesting to see sustainable in this location, as most people avoid this corner of ohb and nol rd. Without Uber eats the doors would probably eventually close.
She's a nice person and I do wish her luck getting things together but I will no longer be on the journey with her and no longer a patron here. I hung in there with her for a very long time and communicated trying to help along the way, but it's always deaf ears and then something else. The value is lost and so is the...
Read moreGreat food. Poor service.
Dined in with my mother and felt ignored by my server, who is apparently the Owner. Had to ask for simple items like utensils and napkins. We watched as the Owner serving us set our drinks down on the table across from us to speak with other patrons, then a co-worker, then finally return to serve our drinks. When we got our food, the Owner serving us did not come to check on us once. I had to ask another employee to provide the check so we could pay and leave.
And since when is there a charge minimum on credit cards? In the span of 24 hours, I went from buying their delicious Thai Iced Coffee with no issue to being told the next day that I need to spend $5 minimum to use my card and that I should buy two. Explaining that this policy wasn’t in place the day before and no signage explicitly stating the policy was posted anywhere did not move the server, coincidentally being the same person (again, the Owner) that provided subpar service to me and my mother days earlier.
I get it. The service industry is difficult. I’ve worked in it and have respect for those that make it their careers. And I would have loved to give this place 5 stars because the food is great and reputation is important. However, after dealing with two poor experiences here, I’m upset enough to speak out.
Clearly there’s a lack of communication regarding policy as well as an Owner who seemingly prioritizes certain policies (and patrons) over others. Hopefully things will get better because I always enjoyed coming here and would like to continue giving them my money, but not if this is the way my future visits will play out.
Response to the owner: Then please explain why I was allowed to make an under $5 purchase the day before with no issue? If this is your policy and not some arbitrary barrier you made up on the fly, then please post signage to inform your patrons and ensure all your employees know the policy going forward.
I see you’ve no words for the poor service YOU gave to me and my mother a few days ago. I won’t...
Read moreIt was our first time going to this restaurant yesterday and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is clean and I love the calming ambience. I ordered the bulgogi bento which comes with miso soup, salad, 2 sides and white rice. I had crunchy shrimp and mix tempura for the side. I also had their Taro Pearl shake. My husband ordered their special, orange chicken. It came with miso soup, salad, white rice and vegetables.
The miso soup is one of the bests I've ever had! It is not too salty and is perfect for the cold and rainy weather. The salad tastes better than it looks. The beef bulgogi bento box really surprised us the most and gave us the WOW factor. Apart from its fabulous taste, the serving was way bigger than we thought it would be! It came with 8 pcs of crunchy shrimp (sushi) and 4 pcs of mix tempura and enough portion of vegetables. My Taro pearl shake tasted fabulous as well!
The Orange chicken was cooked very well. It has enough crunch on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside and is not too sweet.
The service was pretty fast. I find it nice that the manager/owner touch base with customers by personally checking back and by being in charge on serving the entrees.
Overall, we are very pleased and satisfied with the food, price and ambience on this restaurant. We'll...
