This review is going to be a roller-coaster. I will give my experience and you can decide for yourself if you think this place is for you.
We came to town to visit family and decided to go here because my family likes the margaritas. They do look fancy, but I don't drink. Well I'm not sure who was playing the music this night, but there was some normal Spanish music playing and then also some random like, Spanish techno music? It was sort of fun, but definitely not something I've ever heard before.
Well as we were finishing up our meal around 6:30-7 ish, the lights dimmed and "da club" music started playing. Wasn't sure what that was all about since soon it stopped. Then we saw the servers lining up to do a birthday song as restaurants do, only normal restaurants do not have a drumline who wear Five Nights at Freddy's masks. But this is what I saw and off they went to play the happy birthday song.
When that was over, once again the lights dimmed and "da club" music started once again. Only this time it was much different. Out the window, we saw what looked to be a transformer. Yes like the robot people from that one movie starring Shai Lebouf. We thought that was strange until he walked into the restaurant and the whole restaurant was a club and no longer a place specifically for enjoying Mexican food. The transformer was VERY tall and was dancing as if he was in "da club". A crowd was gathered as everyone wanted to see this robot man. I had my kids with me so they wanted to leave, which was fine. As we left, the staff (who was enjoying this chaos) offered to take our picture with transformer. We politely declined and my kids rushed out the door.
Was this planned by the birthday celebrators? Was this planned by the restaurant staff? Who knows. I surely don't. It was testified to me that my family has never experienced this before at this restaurant, but here's one thing you can say about this location, they certainly know how to party.
In case you were wondering what food was like, it was your standard Mexican food. Every Mexican restaurant has their flavor and this one is no different. Just have to try and see...
Read moreWe visited on a Saturday night about 7:30 pm with a party of 12, which included a baby and 2 5-year olds. The food, margaritas, and service were FANTASTIC! We always eat here when we come to Nashville, and we normally love it.
However, I didn't realize how much the atmosphere changes on the weekends. This place is not a restaurant on Saturday night.....it is a Mexican nightclub with no dance floor. I mean hard core, "thud, thud, thud" club music in Spanish.
The music was SO LOUD that you cannot carry on a conversation. It was SO LOUD that it made your eardrums jump. It was SO LOUD that I had to stand outside until the food came because it was literally torture to sit in the restaurant. Now.....let's add in their birthday celebration with an obnoxiously LOUD drum and horn. The kids had their hands over their ears and cried when the birthday group came out (which was twice during our visit).
We asked them twice to turn down the music, and either it was ignored or it was such a slight change that it didn't register. To eat dinner, I had to stuff napkin pieces in my ear canals and take an anxiety pill. It was truly a miserable experience.
So, the food and drinks were delicious, but was it worth exposing my family to noise pollution and damaging my grandchildrens' hearing to the point that it made them cry? Absolutely not.
I normally do not write reviews, especially bad ones. I just don't return to the restaurant. In this case, however, I feel the need to warn other families with small children to avoid this restaurant on the weekends unless you want to risk ruptured eardrums (I am not exaggerating). Also, if you value your own hearing, bring earplugs and pray that no one has a birthday that night.
On a side note - We have ordered take-out from them twice before in the past year, and it was soggy and they forgot things, which is why we decided to dine-in this time.
Tequilas, sadly, is now off the list of restaurants that we visit while...
Read moreWe dined in yesterday at the Bellevue Location. We were seated fast brought drinks promptly by our server ( she was new 1st day ). My husband ordered and the entree has shrimp, octopus and chiviche. We were assuming cooked. However, when brought out to our table it was all raw. My husband told our waitress who told the manager to try and get it removed and put in his new order that was identical to mine now ( DEL MAR TRIO , DELICIOUS ). The manager then came over and said, " everybody loves ( COCTEL PATRON ) and essentially made my husband feel like he was the only one who didn't like raw octopus. ( THE ITEM WAS NOT LISTED AS RAW ON THE MENU WHICH THERE NEEDS TO BE A WARNING INDICATION ANYWAYS ON RAW SEAFOOD). My husband said if he absolutely had to pay for it he would but he did not touch the entree at all except to try the octopus and realized it was not cooked. My husband got his hot, cooked entree and we enjoyed the rest of our lunch. Upon retrieval of the receipt we had everything we ordered on there including the COCTEL PATRON which wasn't eaten. It is good business etiquette to refund the item and charge for the new entree that he ordered. Obviously not the case here. This entree alone was $23 so instead of our bill being $77.50 it was $99.50... paying $23 for something that was not eaten is beyond me. We won't be going back to this place. We will stick with your favorite Mexican restaurant on charlotte EL SOMBRERO. We did tip our waitress very well as she did what she could to accommodate. She said in future she will mention to other customers that this item is raw if they are choosing to order. I'm giving 2 stars because the waitress was amazing on her first day but the management isn't so...
