Taqueria Los Famosos — Restaurant in National City

Really good food! We had just gotten out of the border crossing and by the mere chance of one of our kids wanting to use the bathroom we stopped at the local McDonald's right across from this little hole-in-the wall joint that is Los Famosos taqueria. We stumbled upon this gem by chance and let me tell you that it is very delicious! The chips were freshly made and really tasty. I can't believe how good their habanero salsa was. Especially coming from that big molcajete in front of the cashier. The salsa de molcajete habanero was what appealed to me the most. My rule of thumb is if the salsas for chips and tacos are good there's a 99.9% chance that the rest of their menu should also be delicious. I was right!!! And so far I haven't been wrong. Was the first carne asada I tried here in San Diego and after three months it’s still second out of about 15 places I’ve tried. Don’t want to promote number one here but being second is still great in my book after all the asada I have taken down. The price is a super value due to the monster size of this burrito. Most burritos don’t make it to the size of Taquiera Los Famosos. The taste is amazing and hasn’t been beat anywhere near this area. I recommend it to anyone. If I could give zero stars, I would. This place boldly advertises guacamole included on their tacos (it’s right there on the menu). But when my wife received her order, there was no guac. None. Not a smear, not a spoonful, not even a sad slice of avocado.

I don’t know what kind of operation thinks it’s okay to bait with guacamole and switch with dry disappointment, but this was a hard pass. If you can’t get the basics right like honoring your own menu what else are you cutting corners on?
