GRINCHES AT THE STATION RESTAURANT!! DID NOT HONOR X-MAS EVE RESERVATION! Our experience…We have been loyal customers since you opened going many, many, many times to your restaurant for among other things: family birthdays, milestones, holidays, dinner out and lunch. I also have brought friends and work colleagues to your restaurant as well. So, this Christmas Eve our kids were scattered about the country so we figured why not go to one of our favorite places, the Station Restaurant in Naugatuck, CT. My wife made reservations three weeks ago to make sure we had a reservation. She requested a 6:30 pm reservation for tonight, 12/24/2023. The girl who I heard on speaker phone told us, “No problem! 6:30pm on 12/24 Christmas Eve you are all set!” Fast forward to this evening, 12/24/2023. We arrived at 6:15 pm to make sure we were on time. On arrival we found all exterior doors locked. After knocking and waiting until a customer let us in we were told by a young woman who told us she had no reservations for us as they “stopped service at 6:00” After explaining we made and confirmed the reservation as described she simply said sorry, we stopped service at 6” I asked to speak with a member of management and she walked away briefly and came back and told us “you could eat in the bar” I pointed out an empty table for two right next to the front door and that people hadn’t even been served yet and asked if we could sit there, we would order quickly and she told us we couldn’t sit there because they stopped service but we could eat in the bar. So, we went into the bar and sat at the bar where we were ignored by the bartender who turned his back to us and started capping the taps. I called out to him and he continued to ignore us. A passing girl walked through the area behind the bar and seemed bothered we were there. I asked her if we could order dinner and eat here and she said she would have to check. The girl who sent us to the bar came in and said something to the bartender and this other girl. The other girl said she would be back. At this point after being treated rudely and ignored as I get it people don’t want to work on Christmas Eve but if they do choose to work they need to know… be more empathetic to the situation of customers who were apparently given misinformation about a reservation made three weeks ago and who support their restaurant, be able to improvise and accommodate an obvious miscommunication from someone who took our call for a reservation as people in the restaurant had not even been served, maybe be a little more customer friendly and embrace the holidays with a smile instead of ignoring customers! Needlessly to say we had planned for a nice evening on this Christmas Eve at our favorite place to be treated rudely and locked out on NO FAULT OF OURS as we relied on your staff who took our call three weeks ago! I am also very upset that I asked to speak to a member of management and was BLATANTLY IGNORED! So, on Christmas Eve we drove around to try to find a place to enjoy a meal out to no avail and went home as places we went by were full on this busy night as was the reason we MADE A RESERVATION! Needless to say and you probably don’t care but you have lost a loyal customer who has been giving you business and bringing you business since opened as well as telling people what a great place it is to now a family who will no longer patronize your establishment and will share my horrible customer experience in CHRISTMAS EVE for all things! Even Jesus was allowed in the manager! It might help to train your staff to be a bit more empathetic and that customers drive the business and how they act can effect a business’ standing in the community! Very disappointed with THE STATION RESTAURANT IN NAUGATUCK staff! They could have...
Read moreThis restaurant claims a special place for its atmosphere, its service and its food. Unfortunately, all seem to have left on the last train.
Entering the restaurant, you are greeted by a barrage of voices. It's very noisy and that's before you realize that even in the dining room, there's a large-screen television adding to the cacaphony. That's the way a lot of restaurants are these days, but what really killed any ambiance for us was the smell of cigarette smoke that drifted to our table. We suspect it was from people smoking outside, but it was a regular enough thing that it was very bothersome.
Service was initially fast and good. My wife and I ordered soup. Hers came immediately, but was tepid at best. It took us a while to get our waiter to stop by. He apologized and took the soup. We asked about mine and assured us it was coming.
Shortly after that, another waiter came by with an unknown dish and my soup. He tried to give us the unknown dish. When we told him it wasn't ours, he took the unknown dish...and my soup...to another table. Eventually, my soup made it's way back to the table. And shortly after that, my wife's soup arrived back, well microwaved.
The main course came shortly after that. I had to flag down the waiter to ask to have my water refilled.
When the meal was done, the water came back with our check and then we waited. And waited. And waited. I finally took the check up to the hostess station and presented the check and my credit card. She gave me a deer-and-the-headlights look and told me our server would come get it. I asked when and she scuttled off to find him. He came back to the table sputttering that he thought he had taken our card and he was sorry and so forth.
Between spotty and confused service and cigarettes wafting across our meal, I just can't give high grades. Cigarette smoking is banned in most restaurants and in most workplaces. There's a reason for that and if some loophole that I'm not aware of allows smoking close to where people are eating, you would think they would warn you...or perhaps they're just breaking the spirit if not the letter of the law by allowing smoking close enough for the smoke to drift in and flavor our meals.
Our meals, yes. The food wasn't bad. I found my French onion soup to be a little salty, but it was tasty. And my Crispy Chicken wasn't bad either. My wife liked her soup and salad.
Although the food was good and we enjoyed our meal, it was not what we would have expected for a $60 (without alcohol) dinner. The confusion, noise and (dare I say it again?) the cigarette smoke was enough to keep us from returning to...
Read moreWould not recommend this place at all. It has completely gone downhill service/quality wise. My husband and I went a little less than a year ago for our anniversary. We had an amazing experience, first time ever there. So when we actually had a babysitter for his birthday recently we said let's go back. The service was TERRIBLE. Place was open for maybe 40 minutes? Completely full staff, that was very inattentive, had more fun interacting with their staff then actually helping our paying customers. We waited 10 minutes just to order our drinks. We ordered an appetizer of bacon wrapped scallops, Veal Parm, and Calamari Marinara accompanied by french onion soup complementary with the entree. Our Soups were okay, I only took a few bites of it. Wasn't really feeling it at all. Our waitress rarely came by to see how we were, and then someone else brought over our appetizer and put in on the table. It apparently just came straight out of the oven because my hand touched the dish and I immediately was burned. It was quite painful. The top of the appetizer was burnt, some of the scallops were quite tasty.. you know the ones that were burnt. Our food came about 20 minutes later. I looked at my plate was horrified, it was a mound of pasta mixed in with some calamari surrounded by watered down sauce. It was so watery the entire dish had no flavor. I took one bite and sent it back. I never ONCE got an apology, just "um are you sure? You don't want anything else?" And i politely declined, no thank you please just take it away. My husband's food was rubbery and cold. We immediately asked for the check because we were starving and obviously the food here was terrible. When I received the check, I was AMAZED that yes they took my entree off, but then CHARGED ME FOR THE SOUP. How tacky and bad business is that? You have a very upset customer and you not only do nothing to try and make it better, you insult me. Hey that's okay you can charge me that $5.95 for your terrible french onion soup. We will never be back and have already let all of friends and family know. And guess what the majority of them said Oh yeah that place is going downhill don't ever go back. We even sent an email on their website to please contact us. It's been over a week and they have completely blown us off. Guess they...
