Was happy to find a Filipino spot that had a variety of dishes to choose from. The location is directly across from the hospital and has great parking. Upon entering the restaurant/market you are blitzed with all kinds of Filipino snacks and favorites which is so exciting to see. They have a multitude of different kinds of native brands and so on that you want to try everything. The food station is towards the rear of the establishment and is a bit in a crowded space but they are working with the space they have. The food is like buffet style and you choose from the options they have. Being that I am clearly not Filipino and probably made it quite obvious by saying it was my first time visiting their establishment…. It would have been nice to get a bit more enthusiasm from the server when asking what each dish was. Once she warmed up after I broke the ice with a joke she explained what some of the dishes were. We ordered a variety of dishes because we couldn’t decide on one thing. Everything was tasty, seasoned well and fresh. The meat was tender and juicy and not dry at all. I would definitely go back and try more things but maybe this time be prepared in terms of knowing a bit more about Filipino food so I know what to get. Great little spot with a good vibe and...
Read moreI was there a couple of nights ago. I went for dinner about 8 pm. The place itself is both a combo turo-turo restaurant and market and remittance center. Upon entering the place you could smell the Filipino food. Woman at counter was on he phone with the remittance people. She kindly asked my to wait for a couple of minutes while she was on the phone. As I was not in a rush, I didn’t mind, but I can see some other people being annoyed. Someone else at the store ended up helping me with my order. I ordered the pork sinigang and barbecue stick with rice. Barbecue stick, albeit only warm, was tender and delicious. The sinigang was tasty and I could see that they add sili pepper to it. Always a plus. The pork was fatty though so I had to tease the Kest from the fat (not a fan of soft fat). The rice was a good portion. Turon (3 for $2) was okay. Prices: Fine Would I go again: Sure, but I might go earlier on the day so the dishes were fresher (the dishes looked like they had been out all day). Watch TFC while you eat! Market: has most of your staples. Rice, pancit noodles, suka, preparings for halo halo, etc. The freezer has large and small lumpia. I don’t know if they sell lumpia wrappers as I was not...
Read moreI had a great time at this restaurant! The facility has a good selection of standard Filipino fare, from snacks and condiments to ingredients and beverages, and has a cozy dining area with a hot bar. They have a rotating menu of Filipino comfort food, with favorites such as the chicken skewers.
The chicken skewers I had here are really, really good. Perfect balance of smokey, savory, and sweet. The caramelized sugar in the marinade/sauce adds great depth to the dish! In addition, the chunks of chicken are BIG. I've had some great skewers in the tristate area but they all tend to be really small. The chunks of grilled chicken on these skewers are definitely on the heftier side, and I love it.
The staff and owners of the Kamayan Grill are very friendly. I had a lot of questions about the different dishes and beverages offered at the place and they were more than happy to tell me what everything was. It's great to feel so welcomed!
I am really happy to have found this place. I'm excited to...
