Hackensack Meridian Urgent Care with Behavioral Health - Neptune — Local services in Neptune City

In all my years of living, I have NEVER left a review on any health care workers. BUT THAT'S HOW HORRIBLE of a doctor Charles Spellman is. I wish I could give this rating ZERO stars. Had I known this was the same doctor that my husband had a problem with in the past when it came to care of my daughter, I would have never let him come near me. I've been a nurse for 13 years at Jersey Shore. And from one health care worker to another I put my faith in him. I went into urgent care with my tonsils INFLAMED and my throat on fire. I explained to Dr. Spellman that my daughter was just treated for strep throat and she was just finishing up her antibiotics by tomorrow. I told him, it was very likely that I caught strep from her. Dr. Spellman then proceeded to look into my mouth and ears. He continued to look in my ears oblivious to the fact that I told him I wear bilateral hearing aids. When I took them out for him to examine my ears, he began to speak to me from the side. I kindly asked him if he could repeat what he had said and he thought it was COMICAL to pretend to speak out of his mouth without actually saying anything. I am not deaf. I am just hard of hearing. So I am positive that there was no mistake on my end that he actually was not talking, and indeed mocking me. Who mocks somebody for an impairment they have?!?! Let alone somebody that is a 39-year-old woman with a hearing impairment?! Without ever testing me for strep, he said, "It's an upper respiratory infection. I'll write you an antibiotic" and then tried to rush out of the room. I told him I also had a concerning abscess on the inside of my lip for the past two months that I was seeing a dentist for in a few days, but was wondering if he could take a look. He barely had me open my mouth and said, "yeah it's just an abscess. I'll write you a script". The next day I get a phone call from Walgreens saying that one of my scripts was ready, but that they were trying to contact the doctor about the other one because he didn't make sense in his orders. I pick up the one script (Cefuroxime) which is NOT what you use for an upper respiratory infection. It is used to treat things like bronchitis (lower resp) or things like gonorrhea. So not only did he not test me for strep, which is clearly what I have, but then he didn't even give me the right prescription for something HE diagnosed me with! I also had to call the office because the doctor wouldn't call back Walgreens to clarify his order on the other script I was waiting for. When Walgreens called me again to tell me it was ready and I went and picked it up, he prescribed a nystatin cream which clearly read on their label DO NOT APPLY IN NOSE OR MOUTH. FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. When I question the Walgreens pharmacist about it she said they also questioned him several times because his order did not make sense. They said he also had a different milligram ordered prior which they explained to him would be an overdose amount. When they told him this is not something that you prescribe in the mouth, he then changed the order and said he "didn't mean to write it for the mouth" and simply had them change the order to read "apply 3x a day to the infected area". This is NOT a fungal infection. Nor is it supposed to be applied to the mouth. I asked the pharmacist just to clarify if this was safe to put in the mouth. Her response was "Oh. Absolutely not! That's why we questioned him". Is this some kind of sick joke?? This man should not be in practice! That's two different scripts that weren't even remotely close to what I went there for. And this is just one experience, not counting how MUCH WORSE he was with my 7 year old daughter. When speaking with friends they also said he is the main reason they do not go to that urgent care anymore. I will never return to that building again! It is appalling that we can't even put faith in a doctor with BASIC treatment. They should be ashamed of themselves having a doctor like that practice there. He is seriously going to hurt somebody some day....

After trying unsuccessfully to reach the Manager of the Hackensack Meridian Walk In Urgent care I am writing this review.

On Monday July 3rd I visited the Neptune City Walk-In at about 6:30 in the evening. There were no other patients in the waiting room so I only waited less than 5 minutes. The male tech took me to an exam room and asked why I was there. I said my ears were very clogged and I wanted to see whether is was an infection or a wax buildup. The tech never took my blood pressure. He took a small dropper and proceeded to apply a drop in each ear without even introducing himself or say what he was going to to.

After inserting the drops he handed me some gauze and said he wanted me to wet the gauze and wash each ear for 2 minutes. He then said the water in that room doesn’t get warm so I needed to go to the restroom in the hallway. He said I could leave my pocketbook in the exam room.

He showed me where the bathroom was and told me to lock the door behind me. The water took quite some time to get warm but I then washed my ears and returned to the exam room

Right after I entered the exam room the doctor and tech came in. After the doctor looked at my ears I was told I was good to go.

I returned to my car where my husband was waiting. I had a strange feeling about my purse and then checked my wallet and discovered $160 missing. I was extremely upset but we agreed how it’s almost impossible to accuse someone of stealing money. But I do know how much money I had in my wallet.

I decided to call and speak to the manager. I’ve left several messages with no return call.

Ladies, please always take your purse with you no matter what you are told you can do. I learned the hard way that a lot of people aren’t trustworthy.

As a retired medical employee of Hackensack Meridian I am disappointed I will be unable to use this walk-in again. It was very convenient as it was very close to my house.

I took my disabled autistic son in to be checked. He needed antibiotics for an infection. It was very busy and waited over an hour. Understandable because everyone is sick at this time of year. We saw an older doctor he was very nice . Prescribed antibiotics Said they would fax it in to walgreens near the urgent care. I went to Walgreens and waited an hour to pick up the medicine before heading back home. I found they called the wrong prescription in . It had to be changed. I called the office and told them and so did Walgreens staff. U waited until the next day and the medication was never fixed. I made several more phone calls to staff there and a man maybe the medical tech kept answering the phone . It was very hard to understand him due to a heavy accent kept getting mad at me for asking them to correct the medication. He kept hanging up on me. I called Wakgreens and thr pharmacist said they tried to reach out to them and they were very rude and hung on up them too. After 2 days of calling and being treated rudely they called in another prescription. It was the right medication but the wrong milligrams or dosage. Another day of calling and being treated rudely hung up on by that same man in the office . Walgreens said the same. The 3rd day I finally called back a few times and demanded to speak to the doctor himself instead of being treated rudely by the man everytime I called. He did get a doctor I spoke to Dr Gronksy. He was very understanding after 3 days trying to get a correct prescription antibiotics for my son's infection. He personally called my original pharmacy near my house and spoke to the pharmacist to fill the prescription . It was almost 8pm an my pharmacy was closing but they did get my sons prescription correctly and I was able to pick it up the next day. It took 4 days to get the prescription correct . I won't go back to this office office bc the office staff is ignorant and rude . The doctors arenice. so it's s ashame.. Get better trained medical assistants at this office that...
