My husband and I ordered takeout from Johnny's on Sunday, April 24th. We travel full-time, so we're always looking for cool, local, independent places to try. We had a busy morning of sunrise at Death Valley followed by lots of errands in Pahrump, so we were starving by the time we finally stopped to eat shortly after noon. We ordered a mozzarella stick app, and I ordered the blackened chicken pasta and my husband ordered the chicken fajitas. Our food was prepared relatively quickly and our total was only $32 which with current inflation is honestly a rarity for us as lately it seems that every meal out is $40-$100+ for the 2 of us. My mozzarella sticks were pretty good, but I thought it was interesting that it was very clearly 2 different kind of pre-packaged frozen mozzarella sticks because half were very skinny with one kind of batter and the other half were very fat with a different kind of batter. The marinara dipping sauce was not particularly good and was clearly not made fresh in-house. My blackened chicken alfredo was okay, but the sauce was certainly not "real" alfredo - it's the cheap, Americanized version of the sauce. It reminded me of a dish I had growing up at the local restaurant in my small hometown - something that made a young, small-town girl very happy, but not quite up to par for an adult that has travelled the world. My husband also felt his fajitas were "just okay." All in all, based on the food and presentation, I would normally give this restaurant a 2 or 3 star, but based on the price alone, I bumped it up to 4 stars. If you're not a picky eater and are just looking for a quick, filling meal, I think most people would be relatively happy here, but if you're looking for food that is fresh and make from scratch with seasonal ingredients, this is not the place. Honestly, from our two trips through Pahrump, I'm not sure that there are any options that fit that bill, so next time we will likely hold off until we're in Vegas or...
Read moreWent there for a birthday dinner treated by my neighbor and friend. It was after the dinner rush so seating was easy to find. Everything there was old and in need of repair, ex: bench seats in booth you sank down so far it was like a very old sofa. Their were only 2 other tables with customers yet it took awhile for service and when the food came the order was wrong ( soft taco ordered recieved hard) the food wasn't that good either. I expected it to be as good as Johnny's Tacos on Hwy 160 maybe I mistakenly thought they were owned by same people. The waitresses spent most their time gabbing up by the register or at another table so getting their attention wasn't easy without making a scene. When we wanted to leave the waitress finally came over bringing the to go box we requested when we ordered along with a dessert for my birthday. That was a nice gesture and I wasn't the only one there having a birthday though really we just wanted to go and needed the bill. That took awhile after the dessert delivery also. All in all it may not have been the best tasting dinner, but being with my friend on my birthday...
Read moreExcellent food for great prices. Our waiter, Shane, was fun and helpful, and they had no trouble with my sweetie's food particularities (he's picky and wants what he wants). I had the bacon and eggs breakfast burrito, which came so hot that I had to just enjoy looking at it for a while (builds anticipation!). The pico on the side was perfect, and the crispy hash browns inside were exactly like I like. Sweetie had a bacon breakfast burrito also, but added mushrooms, spinach, swiss cheese, and some other stuff. That thing looked like a football! The tortillas seem homemade. Sweetie also had a michelada, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Oh, and the FRIED ZUCCHINI was the best I've ever had! No greasy taste, perfectly crispy, utterly delicious! With all this food AND the michelada, our bill total still was under $30!!! So we tipped Shane well and went about our day. We'll definitely be back! I can't wait to try...
