Mehfil Indian Bistro - Incline Village — Restaurant in Incline Village-Crystal Bay

This place is horrible, both in service, food and atmosphere.

We went there at 4.00 pm on December 24, 2023, me, my wife and our 5 year old boy. We greeted with a strong toilet smell, possibly they mopped the floor with the same mop they used to clean the toilet. Anyway, we still went in as we were hungry, and this was the only few places open on Christmas Eve. We had to wait for 15 mins before someone even came to take our order, we ordered fish pakoda, tea, naan, paneer and samosa (time now is 4.15 pm). Keep in mind we still haven’t received our water. Then we waited for 10 more mins and have to ask for water, when someone came and gave us water. At this point we are 30 mins in and didn’t even get our appetizers. The place was not even full at this point.

At around 5.15 we got our paneer and then after 5 more mins someone gave a pot of Luke warm water. At this point we were so hungry, we just started eating the paneer without waiting for naan.

Then around 5.40, someone came with our naan, and to be honest we didn’t even care now, it was too late and we got headache due to the annoying toilet smell in the restaurant.

To sum up, don’t go here at all, find...

How can you go wrong with a simple paneer Kadhai and a quintessential butter chicken dish? I would have given 0 stars if that was an option.. ordered two entrées.. one veg (paneer Kadhai) and another as butter chicken.. online ordering didn’t go through so had to call and place the order .. no sweat thus far.. but I sincerely feel that a 26 mins round trip with an anticipation of delicious Indian food in comfort of North Tahoe deserves a reciprocation! Boy, I was disappointed as hell! The paneer curry was farthest from being a curry dish and superficially made. The butter chicken was the absolute worst I had in my 40 years on this planet.. ( I re-read the last sentence 5 times and still believe it).. please go for it if Rubbery chicken is your type! It’s not mine, so am sorry! Two dishes.. 50+ $ and this pathetic experience is not something that can be justified by just being an Indian Cuisine available around North Tahoe! I mean it.. Mehfil in North Lake Tahoe gets 3 stars from me. It's a decent spot for Indian food, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, it's located in a strip mall with limited parking. Finding a spot wasn't an issue for me, but it could be during peak times. Interestingly, the restaurant was completely empty when I visited on a Friday around 5 pm.

I ordered a chai, which was served fast, and the service itself was friendly. However, the chai itself was decent. It wasn't as strong, and the masala flavors didn't stand out much. It also doesn't come with sugar by default. They were happy to add some, though.

On the plus side, Mehfil offers a good variety on their menu. They have vegetarian options, biryani, meat curries, plus salads, desserts, and even soups. The seating is all indoors, with some bar seating available as well.

I only tried their chai, so I can't say much about their food, but I'd definitely try it during...
