I came here this week and my mother and I both ordered vanilla matcha lattes with almond milk and with light ice. They both tasted the same and were excellent. The following day, we came back and ordered the same again. First, the barista taking my order had to ask me for it 3 times because she was so busy listening into the conversation her coworker was having with a customer at the till next to me, which wasn’t particularly professional. Then, my mother’s drink was definitely made with almond milk, where mine was made with soy - two drinks which should have been identical tasted completely different. I brought mine back to the counter and asked to have it made with almond milk instead. The barista argued with me for a minute that it wasn’t soy, and I asked why my drink tasted so different to my mother’s, for which she just told me I was wrong. Not wanting to argue anymore, I simply asked to have the drink made with nonfat normal milk instead as the soy didn’t taste good. She made sure to reiterate that I didn't know what unsweetened almond milk tasted like (though I drink it unsweetened daily).
The barista took the drink back and I repeated “light ice, please!” as she did so. The drink she gave me back was almost 100% ice, so full was the cup from the base to the brim with ice that I actually couldn’t get a lid on. This felt exceedingly spiteful, and I pointed out calmly that I had said light ice, refusing to take the drink. She rolled her eyes, scoffed at me, stormed over to the sink, and threw the drink in the sink, lid and all. Her coworker then came over and the barista pointed at me and they began giggling together.
She then made the drink a 3rd time, this time with exactly 3 ice cubes floating in it (which again felt spiteful) and about half the amount of matcha as before given how light the drink was in colour compared to my mother’s.
By this point I was getting really upset. The two girls were still rolling their eyes and giggling, and at 7 months pregnant I didn’t trust myself to handle a fourth interaction politely. I sat down at the table defeated, unsure why I couldn’t just have the same drink my mother had today and that we had both had the day before which was done beautifully. My husband, seeing how upset I was, went up to the counter and called out the barista for treating me horribly, and she did acknowledge her bad behavior to him but never apologized to either him or me. He asked her to make an iced chai instead as she was clearly unable to make a matcha latte, and that was fine.
The one star given here is for the first matcha latte, which was lovely, and their baked goods, which we tried 5 of over the 2 days we visited and which were all fantastic. Unfortunately the two baristas serving around 11 am on August 6th were atrocious in their behavior, displaying inexcusable rudeness and inability to make the drinks the cafe sells. This is a real shame as it is just down the road from our house and would have been a favorite place to visit regularly had these visits gone...
Read moreThe breakfast croissant sandwich my hubby had was delicious. The cinnamon roll was pretty darn good - but super messy, we told them it was “for here” - wish they would have put it on a little plate or tray for us. But it was tightly wrapped up in the wax paper - same as if it would have been to go. But they need to do better on their avocado toast, it did not have good flavor or texture. I don’t feel like it was freshly made avocado spread. I feel like it was pre-made from a restaurant service. It didn’t have much flavor other than an overpowering flavor of lime juice that is of course used a ton in the pre-made avocado spread to keep it from turning brown. To boot, the avocado toast I ordered came with lemon juice on it - so it was WAY too acidic and sour. If I pay that much for avocado toast I want it to be freshly made and have lumps in it! Who knows, maybe the person who made it just blended it too much and used too...
Read moreLocation is tucked away and a little hard to find. The line took a little while and only two people available to serve pastries, make coffee, and take orders and do to go orders. I ordered a drip coffee and it was very bitter, my daughter ordered an iced coffee with some vanilla and she didn’t like it either. For food I ordered two quiches, a coffee cake, a lemon scone, and a chocolate chip cookie. My daughter said the cookie was plain and a little tough. I tried the other pastries and they had no flavor and were very hard. The quiches were good and served warm but everything else was terrible. I was really surprised considering they bake cakes there. I assumed they specialized in...
