Mucho Loco Mexican Cantina — Restaurant in Nevada

Overall this place is overpriced and not worth it.

I got really excited about coming here mostly because my Mexican-American supply vendor’s for my work really talked it up. We normally go for the Authentic Mexican food, not so much, the commercialized very Americanized Mexican-American Chain Restaurant.

The service when we came in was very welcoming; I.e. when we approached the door the host and staff opens the doors for us which was a very nice touch; again I was super pumped to try this restaurant and the welcoming added that much more to excitement of trying this place for the first time.

Despite from hearing from my colleagues that this place was packed on a Friday night with a Mariachi band playing (a sign outside the restaurant also denoted Friday nights had Mariachi Bands), the outside at least didn’t have much tables occupied, and at least while we were there 6:30-7:30 p.m. on a Friday, there was no band playing- Bummer #1

Okay now on to the meat-and-potatoes, the drinks here are SUPER overpriced. I’m talking most speciality margaritas are $16 a drink (pre-mixed house marg is like $9), and other cocktails are between $13-$17. I got the Sweetheart Sangria which was was super sweet with not much wine. My wife ordered a Brut, but it came like 30 min later.

Service was “eh” at best. Despite not many tables being full, the service was mediocre with drinks and food coming out quite late from the time we ordered them. I get food taking awhile to cook but drinks, and the fact one drink (my sangria) came out 30 min before my wife’s sparkling wine (which comes from a bottle) was just poor service.

We got the Fajitas Los Cuocos over the Mar Y Tierra because The Fajitas Los Cuocos was supposed to have roasted jalapeños, peppers, etc. Our dish for two came with just the meat that we ordered and sautéed onions. We had to ask for extra jalapeños- which to our server’s credit, did come rather quickly when we brought it to his attention. The Fajitas for two (we got steak and shrimp) will be like $55.

We walked out paying $120 for essentially fajitas for two, Side Guacamole, one sparkling wine, one sangria, and one small Pacifico. Was it the worst Mexican Restaurant I’ve ever eaten at? No. But despite seeing this place had a 4.5 star rating on Google, and the word-of-mouth from the vendors I work with, left us very disappointed by this experience. We thought it was going to be way, way better than what it was, and in the end it was like a typical Mexican-American chain restaurant with not much authenticity and again, way overpriced for what...

TLDR: Steak fajitas were great, margs good, everything else average at best.

The wife and I came here on a Saturday evening for dinner. Surprisingly not crowded at all. We ate outside on the patio. Here's the breakdown:

Chips and salsa - Very average. The chips were hard and tasted almost store bought and the salsa wasn't very flavorful. Having been to other Mexican restaurants out here where the chips are light, tasty and many different salsa choices along with a tasty bean dip, I was rather disappointed.

Music - When we got there they had a "DJ" playing music. I put that in quotes because he wasn't exactly a DJ, but he had lights going and songs playing. And it wasn't an enjoyable experience. First, he was all over the place. We went from Cardi B to George Michael to Banda to Cumbia and all were just sudden. To top it off, every 2 minutes he was lowering the music to remind us that happy hour was all day Mondays and Tuesdays and other promos they have. Once he started packing and the radio music they had on was playing, it had a nice vibe.

Margs - We each had one. I had a Raspberry and the wife had a Paloma. We thought it was really tasty. I didn't think the price was terrible considering the taste and size.

Food - We ended up ordering the mixed fajitas with steak and shrimp for 2. Portions wise, it was perfect. We normally don't finish a 2 person tray (probably because chips and salsa are good so we actually eat those), but this was perfect. Sides were really average. Rice was good and beans were alright; nothing to write home about. The steak, though, was fantastic. The flavor was great, they were nice size strips but were real easy to eat. As a fajitas fan, I thought these were up there.

Mood- That Parrillada

Upon entering was quickly greeted and ushered over to table. At first we were going to be seated at a smaller table, but I let the hostess know what were going to order so she opted to sit us at a more accommodating table.

Menus were given and drink order was taken. This is where it started to go downhill. We were told they had strawberry lemonade. No only pink lemonade. Would not have ordered that to be honest. We waited for awhile before the server came back to take our food order.

Opted for the Parrillada, Fajitas Las Brasas, and a Large Nachos. Now I took the pictures. When the nachos came out - they didnt have any of the garnish. Like Lettuce, Sour Cream, Pico, Guac - nothing. The server didnt notice. I had to bring it up to him. He took the whole plate, then brought it back still empty, and brought out a small plate with the garnishes. It continued to go downhill. When the other server came up and asked if we wanted anything removed from the table we told her to take the nachos. She didnt question why. After trying a bit it was just not good at all. An entire plate of large nachos basically not touched at all. No one from the back questioned.

The Shrimp wrapped in bacon was good, the Carne was good, the sausage was good. And that is where I have to leave the remainder items. I think the food is meant to appease the masses.

Interior is huge. Several seating areas even an outdoor patio. Everything was very clean. The other staff we interacted with were very friendly. Music was playing in the background.
