Mood - Killah Grinds/ Straight up Cafe - no this isn't a coffee shop with pastries ( this is straight up food)
I saw this and heard the story. Almost started getting watery eyes from laughing so hard. That people would actually think it was a coffee shop - but then it brings me to what my motto is all about. Culturally we all have those names that our food is referenced too. And if you don't know, LEARN. Especially if you want to eat it and not be that entitled person.
Upon entering was quickly greeted. Menus are at the front counter. You place your order, pay, and it is brought out to you. Unless you're getting it to go, then you just wait and it is bagged up.
Opted for 2 of the Straight Up Combos 1 with Cucumber Kimchi the other with Cabbage Kimchi, that Chantilly Cake of course, and Lilikoi Lemonade. Now was I shook, yes indeed. You can tell each dish was made with pure love. Close your eyes picture yourself on Sandy beach and just enjoy. I'm very picky when it comes to Kalua Pig and Chantilly Cake. And if you don't have an Imu which most don't, hard to come by proper river rock, the taste has to be created. This place stole the show with the flavor. Js....
Interior is a good size. There are several table and chair arrangements. Music was going on the background. Everything was very clean.
Would most def recommend- pricing is a reflection of quality and presentation. Plus have you been to the grocery lately, outrageous? The prices are a reflection of direct inflation but still at good portions. It is worth it. Customer...
Read moreI can't say enough good things about this Hawaiian restaurant! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. They checked on us while we were eating, making sure we were good. Most places like this, you don’t get that kind of service anymore.
After we were done eating, I had issues with my Jeep and the owner kept coming out checking if we were ok. Offered for us to hangout in the restaurant and talk stories. He even helped us with jumping our Jeep which was awesome.
Now let's talk about the food—absolutely incredible! Authentic flavors. The kalbi and spicy tuna inari bombs are my favorite. Husband loves the bbq chicken and mac salad.
Desserts were amazing as well. We had the rainbow cake and the guava cake very 1st time we visited and this time we tried the apple lumpia. Not too sweet, it was perfect.
My mom even loved it, said it was the real Hawaiian food. She’s very picky about where we go.

Friendly and superb customer service from start to finish. You simply cannot beat the ALOHA from a small family run biz!
If you're in the mood for Hawaiian local food or delicious dessert options this is the place for you!
I should have got the Straight Up Combo and Level 5 Dream Cake but didn't have the appetite to eat that much!
Kalbi, BBQ Chicken & Kalua Pig with 2 scoops of Rice, Potato Mac Salad and Kimchi. The Kalbi & BBQ Chicken is marinated in our house marinate and the Kalua Pig is smoked to perfection... totally missed out!
Level 5 Dream Cake THIS IS A DREAM! Our light airy chocolate cake whipped frosting, topped with chocolate shavings and to kick it up to that Level 5 we add a chocolate drizzle & mac nuts.
Got the Spicy Tuna and Strawberry Shortcake for a quick bite! LOVED IT!
Mahalo again to the Straight Up Cafe staff and definitely...
