Updating our original rating. Things have changed at this formerly great non-smoking bar, which used to have a friendly, hospitable atmosphere.
The evening of our most recent visit, the bar and dining area were completely empty. We started to play video poker, bartender told us complementary drinks require $10. minimum. So, no problem- put in a $20. in the video poker machine, provided an appropriate gratuity, and enjoyed the drink (served in a real glass! Nice!). My spouse was drinking water. Later, put in another $20. and waited to be asked about a refill. Never happened.
For the next 15 minutes, watched as our bartender did everything but make eye contact with us. No small talk, no recognition, no nuttin’
This isn’t the first time with this experience at The Cove. Wondered if it was the betting ‘level,’ gratuity amount, number of drinks per hour?
With the bar being completely empty, it is apparent he was avoiding contact with us, probably in order to avoid providing a second cocktail.
Perhaps it is the direction from management, maybe the bartenders aren’t happy with their work environment, or customers, or…?
Also, will add that after spending an hour or so with 3 machines, we agree the video poker machines now have become very, very ‘tight.’
All we know is, in the past we’ve driven to Laughlin from Las Vegas to enjoy this nice spot in the river, but lately there are other hotel / casinos with bars which have a much better atmosphere than ‘The Cove.’
Non smoking, views of the Colorado River from either the bar or the lounge area next to the bar. Bartenders and their ‘back ups’ are consistently friendly and responsive. Our favorite Bartender at The Cove is Chad. The food menu is limited but with good selections.
Both the bar area and lower lounge area have tables and tables for either couples or groups. The waitresses and waiters are responsive and food is served in a reasonable amount of time, of course depending on numbers of guests and how busy they are.
Chad is a long-time Bartender at the Aquarius and is quite talented in preparing specialty drinks. Our favorite is a ‘Mudslide,’ complete with chocolate designs in the inside of the glass.
The video poker machines can run ‘hot and cold,’ but on more than one occasion we’ve watched or experienced some pretty good payouts at this bar. Note that The Cove Bar & Lounge closes at 9:00 PM weekdays, but may stay open a bit longer if there are customers who arrive near...
Read moreWhile visiting my sister and her husband for a week and a half we visited the Cove. On the first Thursday we went to the Cove to order pizzas to go. We were greeted by a very rude guy telling us that it was closed (I don't understand why he couldn't go on to tell us it was for a private party). We took a chance tonight since it was my last night here. As we walked in to sit down where we could watch the river......Crystal informed us we couldn't go down (another couple I formed us there was a private party).....again no one from the Cove informed us! After 5 mi uses we were able to sit down at a table. After waiting 25 minutes and the only girl waiting was waiting on people who arrived after us.....my brother in law went up to the young lady. By that time my sister and myself had had enough! I was told to go talk to the casino host. When we walked I to the office a woman sitting on the left side of the room said "You look mad". I told her that was because I was. Long story short nothing was accomplished!!!! As a visitor here from Texas, I want to get the word out that The Cove needs to practice on their customer service issues. I will NOT return there in The Aquarious Casino on any of my...
Read moreOverall we enjoyed our few hours here people watching from the corner couch. My wife and I stopped in here a couple weeks ago for lunch but they don't serve food till 3 so we stuck around. The drinks are a little pricey but I thought the pizza was a good value although it took forever to get. I saw 3 other pepperoni pizzas come out before my shortrib, onion and mushroom to guests who got in after us. I was told the shortrib, onion and mushroom always takes longer. I would have ordered the pepperoni but was told that no additional toppings can be added. The pizza was mostly onions and mushrooms with very little shortrib. Even so, it was pretty large with a good crust and plenty of cheese and tasted good when I got a bite with shortrib. Next time I'll stick to the pepperoni though. The bartenders cold use some people skills and consistency in pouring but our waiter was friendly and attentive. This is beginning to sound like a 3 star review but it was such a comfortable place to just sit and chill, meet some very friendly locals and enjoy ourselves so I can't...
