Nice Room Arrival at the hotel was less than friendly. We pulled up in front to go check in and the valet made it very clear we could not park there so I parked in a zone not too far from the entrance and we walked in. After checking in, I pulled the car up to the front door and we took our bags out of the car to bring to our room after I parked the car. No sooner do I have the rear hatch open to pull our bags, Mr. Annoying Valet is there telling me I can't do what I was doing. Clearly, he wanted me to use him for valet and bellman service which I don't want or need. So I ignored him and did so every time I went to the entrance during the next three days to pick up my wife as she is unable to walk far. Get a clue hotels - your valet and bellman service is your first chance to welcome or disappoint your guests. Check-in was fast and the elevators even faster. As were mid week travelers and guessing that the hotel had few guests, I asked if we could be put into a room overlooking the river. No problem as long as we paid $20 additional per night. No way, especially since I was only paying $21.38 per night. And as I found out from housekeeping staff during our stay, occupancy during our stay was very low - loads of waterfront rooms were unused. This is a budget friendly hotel that offers very clean, updated, large rooms, but no mini-fridge as most places have. The bathroom was spotless. The bed was super comfortable and the room was very quiet. Daily housekeeping was appreciated with new towels daily. The daily resort fee ($64.14 for 3 days) is a joke especially when the weather is too cool to use an outdoor pool and the only other 'resort' amenity is a miniature fitness center, but this is a standard fee in many hotels now as a way to generate additional revenue. The hotel does have several dining options. We tried PT's Express for some drinks and snacks. $5 tap beers were nice. The Mozzarella Sticks and the Chicken Caesar Salad ($13.00) were very good. I also tried Capriotti's Sandwich Shop for a Grilled Italian Sub (Medium, 10 inch, $12.00). The flavor of the sandwich was very good and it was made fresh while I waited, but I feel the price is too high for the amount of ingredients in the sandwich. The three options for parking are valet, free open parking lot, and free parking garage. The lot is not far from the entrance, but it is a bit of a walk - too far for people with walkers or limited mobility. The parking garage is even further way and I wouldn't consider it at all and I am a regular walker. The first thing you notice about the casino is they allow smoking and the ventilation is not that good. There is a smaller non-smoking section for a healthier option. The casino is primarily slot machines and as we do play slots at other casinos we found these machines to be comparable as far as payouts. Sign up for the True Rewards Program and as a new member you will get some free play. If they offer gamblers complimentary drinks while playing, I never saw a cocktail server wandering the casino floor during our time there. We visited several other casinos and the cocktail servers were plentiful. This could explain why so many people were playing games at the bars. In summary, this hotel offers a nice room at a budget price, has nice views onto the river, several dining options, plenty of gaming, has easy in/out off of Casino Drive and is close to all the other casinos. I would...
Read moreThis was a family trip. We booked 4 rooms. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. In particular, Cameron in Reservations was the worst. He has no business working with the public. ||My brother who had prepaid for his room over the phone arrived and was told they had no reservation in his name. Meanwhile, I had just spoken to the hotel earlier in the day and had confirmed all four rooms. They said they had no record of his reservation or his payment. He pulled up his bank account and showed him the debit made from their hotel. They told him it doesn’t matter, if it’s not in our system then we cannot honor it. In order for him to check in he had to pay again for the same room and dispute the charge with his bank/debit card. ||We had bought tickets to see the Oak Ridge boys at the Edgewater venue. My brother had purchased four tickets for his family, including his daughter who was 19 on the ticket stub. It states that anyone under 16 can attend, but they would have to attend with the adults. The hotel then proceeded to tell him that they changed their policy and now his daughter could not attend the concert because she was not 21, even though it stated 16 on the ticket stub. Eventually, they did allow her to attend, but it was a hassle. ||I called the hotel myself to help resolve the issue my brother was having checking in and spoke with Cameron in reservations. I started to speak and explain what was happening and he cut me off and kept interrupting as I was trying to explain telling me there’s no way that happened because there’s no notes in the system and that’s not how they do things there. After a short time on the phone, he disconnected the line. Yes he hung up on me. I was not yelling or abusive at all. I called back and asked for a supervisor, who I don’t think was an actual supervisor, and was told that I should speak to the front desk manager and was transferred. The front desk manager was helpful on the phone however, when my brother arrived to try to check in, he was not permitted to do so. ||On top of all of these issues, the rooms were not clean and were very dated. The waiter in the steakhouse was very rude and everything was overpriced. The AC was not working in the elevators.||I will never stay here again. I would never recommend it to anyone....
Read more2nd update: We started going back as part of our evenings playtime, but after they stopped giving me the $5 free play, I won't be going back. I'd spend at least an hour playing but will now keep my money at the Aquarius! Sorry Edgewater.
UPDATE: we went back a couple weeks ago and the place was totally different. Open aired and not nearly as stuffy as our last visit. The elevator still smells a bit musty. but we'll start visiting on monday mornings, get our cash, spend it in the machine & walk back to our car. It was actually fun for my spouse to play there and his $35 kept him busy for quite awhile.
We, as locals, wanted to see what is new at the Edgewater. As my last visit was in 2005 I was hoping it was as nice as back then; Boy was I wrong. Upon entering (after valets parked us) the 1st thing I noticed was the smell. It smelled musty & tbh part of it was from the carpeting throughout. We walked the entire floor and then settled down for some fun. I had to leave my location due to an intoxicated patron who was being less than cordial when he had to pay $1 for a shot of Jack! Dude was playing a nickel machine, 5 cents a hand! As locals we wanted to like it, but sadly, we couldn't. Staff we interacted with were quite pleasant, except for the Dennys, but then again, its Dennys. Upon leaving, there was no one available to get our vehicle for over 15 minutes. Then a bellman came out to get a new guest's luggage & we were informed that he was also the valet. ONE person after 11pm to do both jobs is just sad. We will not be using our 'locals edge' promos that are only available at the Edgewater. It was not an enjoyable...
