We like to take family and friends to the Recbar 812, in New Albany, when they visit. It has something for everyone to eat and do. My brother-in-law is visiting from Oregon, so we decided to take him there. This is the first bad experience we’ve had. Let me start off by saying the food was delicious. Otherwise, there would be one star. The service was unacceptable. We sat in the bar area. The bartender came over and didn’t really greet us just put the menus on the table and asked us if we wanted anything to drink. She wasn’t really rude, just seemed kind of indifferent. I hadn’t decided what I wanted to drink yet, so she got drinks for my husband and brother-in-law. When she returned, I told her what I wanted to drink. She forgot it, when she came back to take our order. Someone else ended up bringing it out. It took longer than usual for her to take our order. Again, she wasn’t friendly or rude, just indifferent. It took longer than usual to get our appetizer and meals but, as I said earlier, they were delicious. The bartender never once checked on us. She didn’t ask us if we wanted more drinks or refills, until after we were finished eating and she brought the bill. Up to this point she was still going to get a tip. We waited forever for her to come take the payment. I even took it up to the bar myself and she ignored me. I have worked as a server, so I’m pretty patient. We finally decided to put our cash together and left the money on the table. I understand service can take longer when it’s busy. I understand food can take longer when it’s busy. I understand having a bad day. I even understand that restaurants are struggling to get employees. I took all of this into consideration. This girl, didn’t just make us feel like an afterthought. She made us feel like an inconvenience. I’m a good tipper. I’d say better than the average customer. This is the first time I’ve...
Read moreI didn't try much of the food but the atmosphere hits you as soon as you walk in. Nostalgia everywhere you look. The wall murals depict classic 90's pop culture icons. You walk through part of the arcade to get to the dining area so you can browse the selection while you wait to be seated. Closest to the door is a row of classic shooters, House of the Dead and Terminator: Salvation were two I played. Beat Terminator with my buddy. I did better. The food was excellent, pretty wide selection of the usual bar fare, tacos and tots and what not, the difference is the food quality! It looked great, it tasted great. It even sounded great. Totchos lol Tater Nachos man! Just go try them. If you think it's cool up stairs then you'll love it even more down stairs. Gigantic old school library of arcade blockbusters, equally large pinball collection (not my forte), and a full bar to top you off. If you love the nostalgia but are here or there on the video games, they have plain old physical reality bar games for you to enjoy. Slidey sand pucks, ping pong tables...I'm pretty sure there's more.
To be clear! It's true that it is not fully accessible to handicapped individuals atm, but the owners of Recbar responded appropriately to being called out about it. Allegedly, they're working out how to put in a chair lift to make the downstairs portion available to everyone. It's also true it shouldn't have been opened until it was accessible, obviously. But it's important that they're trying to RECtify the situation.
Also some of these arcade boxes are old and have been through some tough times. They do not all function properly. If they offered refunds on gobbled tokens, people would abuse it pretty quickly. If you ask me. Sketchy coin slots are absolutely part the arcade experience! The place is worth spending an evening or ten, go...
Read moreSo we to the Recbar last weekend with 2 of our grandkids and spent 60.oo to eat and about 40 in coins. We have 4 grandkids so tonight Saturday we decided to take our other 2 grandkids and 4 adults total of 6. . We purchased 80$ in coins. Apparently at 10pm all Children under 21 years of age need to leave at 10pm. We were not aware. That is my own fault. However , I feel I was disrespected. I did hear a voice over the intercom but honestly could not hear a word they said. I was with my 12 year old grandson he playing the boxer hitting game one time and a waitress did ( what I thought said something behind me, to the couple.playing the BIG pinball) and walked away.. at the time I thought she was just telling them their food or drinks was ready or something. I honestly had no idea she was even speaking to the back of me. Apparently she was, as my grandson and I put money in Ms Paxman a gentleman walks up and says I need you to leave you have been told 2x. At that moment, I was totally embarrassed and ask sir what did I do. Then he told me the rules of all.children out by 10pm. Which I totally understand. However I was not approached the correct way either time by staff. When he said I had been told 2x I am only assuming the young waitress was speaking to me behind me and I had no idea at all. So please train your workers.to know how to approach someone. I would have never continued to play games if I was aware it was time to leave.. so needless to say we left with lots of coins and we will NOT BE RETURNING. We have spent 200.oo in your establishment in 2 weeks.andi felt totally embarrassed and humiliated. And PS lots of your games takes the money and the game doesn't work. When we did mention it. The guy says yeah its probably stuck. Each time we probably lost 5$ in coins due to games...
