The Admiral Bicknell Inn is lovely. It is so charming, elegant and beautiful. The property has amazingly high ceilings which reduce the possibility of hearing sounds from above and some of the fixtures inside must be custom made and are simply striking (the mirrors and woodwork above the windows).
The evening we arrived the proprietor was hosting a rehearsal dinner. It was a beautiful setting for such an occasion and the owner seemed very excited about her business and the dinner (and our arrival). Valla, the owner, treated us very warmly during our stay. She even gave us great recommendations for things to do and check out while we were in the area.
We stayed in the Paris room... it was beautiful to say the least. It could have used a space heater, but I admit I tend to be colder than most folks. The shower, luckily, was piping hot, just the way I like it! Again, the decor and custom-made fixtures in this room were stunning.
The best part of the stay was by far the breakfast. Valla must pride herself on creating great meals. We had poached eggs one morning and a divine french toast the second morning. Valla was especially accommodating with my gluten and lactose sensitivities... which in and of itself is reason to give this place five stars.
We would definitely, definitely stay at the Admiral Bicknell Inn again and would definitely recommend others try it... we were going back and forth between Louisville, Kentucky and parts of Indiana and found this location to be...
Read moreA fantastic getaway. Step back in time but yet be close to the city lights of Louisville.
My wife and I recently spent a night here and it was a wonderful experience. The Inn is within walking distance of the restaurants and antique shops of New Albany. We had delicious crab cakes while sampling wine at a local restaurant (the name escapes me but Valla can provide the details). Later in the evening went to Habana Blues for some Cuban fare that was outstanding as well.
The next day we went to Clarksville and Jeffersonville (10 minutes away). We went to the Falls of the Ohio State Park. It's the largest fossil bed in the world. The visitor's center has a wonderful museum. We spent over an hour there. A mile down the road we stopped by the Antique candy shop for some chocolate.
Then a quick 10 minute drive across the bridge into Louisville for visits to the Louisville Slugger museum and the C21 Hotel Museum (Hang a right off the bridge and you'll see both locations on the left in less than a mile)
The central location of the Inn is perfect. And Valla is a wonderful host. She even gave us a B&B recommendation for our upcoming Paris vacation.
We'll be going back next year since we missed other attractions that we really wanted to see. Next time, we'll bring our friends with us so we can share the...
Read moreThe rooms and outside appearance of the inn are not as captured on the website. The proprietor was never there except to serve breakfast then disappear behind a closed door. The air conditioning was not on the first night and there was no way to open the windows. After speaking to the innkeeper she said that I could have regulated the thermostat "under the staircase." This info was not provided as my key was left with a note not to go into other areas of the house.
Noise is a problem. There is a yappy dog. There is a train track at the back of the property. There is currently construction in front and on the side of the building that begins at 7:00am and literally shakes the building, along with other heavy equipment noise.
It is certainly not worth $179.00 per night. The next time I am in the area I will definitely stay in...
