My friends were in from out of state this weekend, so we decided to go to BCW for dinner, as we’ve been there before and always had excellent service and food. Last night was awful.

We arrived at 6. It was 6:30 before anyone even came to greet us at our table, bring us water, etc. We’d viewed the menu online, so we all knew what we wanted and were ready to order. We’d ordered our wine (one person had a flight), an appetizer and our meals (steak frittes, a pizza, crab cakes, and a salad). The one who ordered the salad asked for it to come with the appetizer (blackberry goat toast). It took over 30 minutes to get our appetizer, without the salad, and then another 10 to get our wine. Our server did not bring plates for the appetizer, even after we asked.

A few minutes later, our food arrived, well some of it. My friend who order the steak frittes had ice cold fries and her medium rare steak was well done and full of gristle. The pizza was burnt to a crisp and mostly inedible. And our other friend didn’t even get her food! About 10 minutes later, her crab cakes and salad finally arrived.

Our server never returned to check on us. We had to find her to ask for the bill and that took an additional 40 minutes from the time we asked. And she kept giving one person the wrong bill.

There was also live music last night, but it was so loud we couldn’t even have a conversation at our table amongst the 3 of us.

In all, it was NOT an enjoyable dinner. We will definitely have second thoughts about returning or suggesting it to others. We spent a lot of money last night on food we couldn’t even eat. We didn’t sent it back to the kitchen because of how long we’d waited just to get it in the first place.

Very disappointing experience and would...

We were tourists scouting the area and heard this women-owned restaurant/pub has great appetizers and pizzas. What a beautiful restaurant storefront and friendly staff! Seating arrangements abound, with tables and chairs, booths, plumb couches, and a fireplace to cozy up with friends.

There is also bar seating, which seems to be a favorite among locals. We asked who the owner is and were delighted that Barbara Haas was there and came over to our table to talk with us.

One of the highlights of our visit was the unique Pesto & Veggie pizza on the menu. It's a delightful choice when you're in the mood for something lighter. I highly recommend the Hazelnut Goat Toast and the Charcuterie Boar for sharable entrees and appetizers. The Hazelnut Goat Toast, in particular, was a pleasant surprise with its roasted nuts and smoky honey, adding a burst of unique flavors.

We were most impressed to see how all the staff love working here. The atmosphere is light and fun. They were all eager to serve us, and conversations with them were most pleasant. Our waitress offered menu suggestions that were ideal for our appetites.

They let you make reservations in advance to attend events or book a party. Easy access for strollers and wheelchairs as there are no steps to the front entrance. The large front windows let sunlight pour in, and you can see other pleasantries on the street. It’s a pleasure to see this beautiful historic building so well maintained and bustling with happy patrons.

While living in Minnesota, we plan to visit again if in the New Albany /...

We had a less than stellar dinner experience here.

We decided to try Baers City Winery because a musician we like was playing there. Perhaps because of the entertainment, the restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived. Unfortunately it seemed as if the management hadn't anticipated this, and they were improperly staffed for the amount of patrons.

While we were seated quickly, we waited a significant amount of time before anyone approached our group at the table. (We later found out this was because our server was called into work at the last minute after we arrived.) Service overall was very slow, and no one in our group was particularly impressed with any of our food or wine selections. The best thing on the menu was definitely the beer.

On top of all that, when I used the restroom there was water (condensation, I hope!) actively and profusely dripping from the venting in the ceiling.

The music was...

An Unforgettable Experience at Baers City Winery! From the moment we walked through the doors of Baers City Winery, we were welcomed with the kind of warmth and hospitality that immediately sets the tone for a perfect evening. The customer service was truly exceptional—friendly, attentive, and genuine, making us feel like VIPs from the very start. The ambiance was inviting and lively, enhanced by an incredible lineup of live music that added just the right touch of energy and charm to the night. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was crafted with care, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Paired with their outstanding selection of wines—i recommend the Papaw—it became a dining experience to remember. Whether you’re a wine lover, a foodie, or just looking for a great night out, Baers City Winery delivers on every level. We can’t wait to come back and relive the magic all over again!
