Friday Night Foodies unite!!! This week we are hitting Randys Smokehouse BBQ! I was thinking what type of Texan foodie would I be and don't even have any of our local BBQ spots?! Plus, I got to run into Makenzie Plunkett and get a pic!!! 🙌🏽
I got the rib plate. That's 5 full size ribs, two sides, and a drink with bread and veggies like pickles, jalapenos, etc. Firstly, I put BBQ sauce on one bite just to know what it tastes like and it was really good. I'm loving the spicy one in the red bottle. But, I am a firm believer that you don't need BBQ sauce for really good BBQ and this did not need it. The ribs actually melted in my mouth and fell right one the bone but, were firm enough to eat with falling apart in your hands. I really loved the seasonings. I had one rib that was thin on the top and the flavoring reminded me of peppercorn beef jerky. The okra was fresh and came out crispy with no slimey texture! I'm a huge okra fan so, this was exciting actually lol. The beans were loaded with flavor too. They are kind of hard to explain. It has their signature sauce flavor for sure but, they were sweet with that BBQ aftertaste. They also made fresh double chocolate cake and cookies but, I was full before I figured out lol. I know it was amazing though so I may stop in again and specifically eat a whole chocolate cake! Send help!
The owners are our locals. I love that! I know there was a comment on one of my post saying that good things and character weren't important in these but, that's one of the biggest parts. I'm always authentic but, there are some places with amazing food that I will not make these posts for because I don't believe in the way they treat their employees, management style making an uncomfortable place for our people, funds being used in ways I don't believe are good for our community, etc. This is the beautiful thing about capitalism. We can support businesses or not. Its an ecosystem and we can control where the money goes. If I don't agree with stuff, I don't attack them though. I allow others to make their own mind up. With that being said, it's one reason I chose Randy's for this week. I've had multiple people message or catch me out in public and tell me about how loved they are by our people and how they are active in giving back and helping others. I've had the workers tell me how much they love being a part of it. Also, it's family owned and they use to have 3. It's an amazing thing to start a legacy and then, get your family involved to teach them and give them opportunities that the previous generation/s may not have started with.
Overall, I loved the experience. Amazing people making delicious food. I sat there for quite awhile and you could tell a lot of the customers had a personal relationship with the staff. The ones that didn't were made to feel welcome and even though everything is laid out where you can get it yourself, they still asked everyone if they needed anything and made sure they were noticed. I def will be back!
Also, I want to note the burnt ends were highly recommended. They have a unique way of making them so, if you like burnt ends then, def give them a try. I will probably try those next time I visit. Have a safe weekend, go out and live life and as always, Be good to each other! ...
Read moreThe brisket was firm slices and very tasty, the ribs were mushy but clinging to the bone (perfect done-ness) and meaty without being all chewy fat. The burnt ends were good smoky and squishy (husband loved them and I thought just ok because I don’t like a sweet rub on my smoked meat). The sauces available were sweet, mild, and hot, and our favorite was the hot by far with just enough spice to cause a tingle and compliment the meat, but not enough to distract from the flavor of the smoked meats. The green beans were delicious, and the baked beans were sweet and scrumptious. The potato salad was good consistency but definitely more mustard than I prefer (I could taste it which is a big nope for me). The staff were all very friendly, and were immediately addressing vacated tables and bench seats with the cleaning supplies. Definitely a clean place but still kept to the roadside...
Read moreThe only thing good about Randy's is the burnt ends and the baked beans. Their potato salad is bland and the potatoes are hard. The coleslaw has mustard (just guessing cause it's yellow). This is 3 times that we've ordered from them and our order is wrong. This time, I ordered a Babe Ruth w/brisket, chopped, cheese, onion, jalapeno and Mild sauce. I got a baked potato w/butter, sour cream, jalapeno, cheese and a spoonful of chopped fat. I had to assemble it all together when I got home and microwave it to melt the cheese. No BBQ sauce at all. Had to go to the store for some Kraft BBQ Sauce. (Randy's is 20 minutes away). I called and they said, "Next time you are in New Boston stop by and we'll give you some sauce." No Thank You. My Husbands Burnt Ends and Fried Okra was good. I ended up throwing most of the food away. My potato was good with store bought BBQ sauce. I probably...
