Monterrey Cafe — Restaurant in New Braunfels

Went during at 12:00 pm like I always do. Never had a problem before until today. There were 2 waitresses on the floor one kept telling me your Waitress.will be with you. Your waitress will be with you. She passed me at least 10/20 times never gave me a menu. Never decided to take at least get my drink order. My waitress finally came after 20 minutes of waiting gave me a menu and walked away. Another 20 minutes past she finally came over and took my drink order. Gave me my drink and my chips. I finally ordered a soup. And that was the last time I saw. yes, I understand that it was busy. I the people behind me Ordered seconds before I did they got their food They got up and they left. I was still waiting for my food. The lady that walked in with me sat at a different table. She ordered she got her food within 5 minutes and she left. And I was still waiting for my food. But. The other waitress kept walking by and she saw me and said nothing. there was a guy behind me That got sat behind me and she said oh, she isn't come yet. She took her his order and walked away but never asked me if there was something I was waiting for never to ask if she could check on my order by 1 o'clock. I finally got up and said I have to go that is when I was told it almost ready almost ready and that it is takinglong becauseit is soup. I know that these soups are prepackaged. Because the waitress told me a couple days ago. Their prepackage the night before, so it shouldn't take that long to to put that little package and warm it up at least. I can't wait and to cancelmy order. I got up to leave when I went to the cashier. She made be paid for a drink that I didn't even drink abd she told the waitres that I was canceling and thw waitress I know and walked away. No consideration. No, I'm sorry. No offer to pack it up to for me nothing. They did not care. But I will say they sure did take care of all the gentlemen there fast...

Whether it was Chayo, Lucy or Yakie, the service was terrible. No smile and a few eye rolls. They weren't the least bit busy but our food took just short of 15 minutes. I ordered the carne guisada plate (too salty) and my boyfriend ordered soup and a small quesadilla. Our waitress brought our check with the food and didn't stop by until my boyfriend got up with my empty glass to ask for more sweet tea. Our waitress was sitting behind the counter and on her phone. She brought the tea and walked away. We were still sitting and chatting when another woman began putting the chairs on top of the tables in our area. The room began to smell of cleaning chemicals. A bit rude if you ask me. We decided it was their way of telling us we should leave. We take our check to the counter to pay and no one was behind the counter. Our waitress had stopped sweeping (all the dirt and trash she'd already swept was on the ground next to the counter, in front of the doorway) and was talking to two men. She looked our way and continued her conversation. The woman who had put the chairs on top of the tables was standing behind a wall with a banana in her hand. She took a look at us and began peeling the banana and took a bite. She then set the banana on a table in front of a man relaxing and walked behind the counter. She began yelling out to our waitress. She was asking the prices of the food and searching the menu. We paid and walked through the dirt and trash on the floor to get out the door. We will not be going back. They proudly display a newspaper article naming their tacos the best in New Braunfels in 2010. They were probably the only restaurant in town serving tacos at that time. Update 10/03/18 I don't know what's happened to this place. I don't know if the cook left, if they changed food vendors or if there is a new owner but something bad happened. The food has turned cheap and bad. My husband and I have both gotten sick here, we have gotten really horrible tasting meals and it's been so disappointing! I don't know if they are now reheating their shredded chicken or what, because it always tastes like it's been cooked days before serving. So, so disappointing. We miss how it used to be! Not coming back for a long time.

They serve breakfast until 1pm every day but after looking at the photos people uploaded of their food I wanted more than breakfast. I got the #25, with all chicken and holy cow it was amazing! My husband got the pork chops and he said they were super good too. They have home made tortillas also, which are super yummy also. We didn’t have to wait long to get our food and there was no wait when we went in just after 11am. We will be coming back often cause it was just that good!...
