Shugabees Texas BBQ — Restaurant in New Braunfels

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I wasn't disappointed! The owner was really friendly. He gave me a sample of the smoked chicken salad. I really liked the smoked flavor, but I am not a fan of nuts in my chicken salad. Great option you don't see at BBQ joints though. We tried the chips and hatch green chili queso with brisket which was delicious! We also tried the brisket taco, which was HUGE! Really loved that he makes the tortillas fresh right then. I wanted mine plain (sauce and veggies on the side) so I could see how the brisket tasted solo and I am glad I did. The brisket was very tender with a nice bark. Definitely big enough to share, IMO. The only downside was that the BBQ sauce wasn't homemade. I understand the argument that great BBQ doesn't need sauce but store bought sauce can RUIN great BBQ! I am glad I didn't get sauce on my taco or I would have been disappointed. The store bought flavors would have canceled out the awesome flavor or the meat. I finally got the chance to visit this place. So, it being my first time I ordered several different items from the menu... I'M GLAD I DID! Ordered the brisket nachos. There was so much beef on it and just the right amount of cheese sauce. Ordered half-pound of brisket & pulled-pork, both were incredibly melt- in-your-mouth delicious and moist. They make their own tortillas right then and there, none of this reheat stuff, and they are some large tortillas! Put some meat in even half of a tortillas and it is big enough! Another great buy was their Hawaiian bun, toasted on both sides and filled again, you guessed it brisket! I don't know how much is in there but that baby is phenomenal!!! Add a little of their BBQ sauce and bring that thing, whatever you put the sauce on, to make you smile knowing it's going to taste even better! My husband and I use to love this place. We would come here for wing Wednesday's and grab some really good wings for a cheap price. The wings were always smoked perfectly but not saucy if that is your thing. A couple of weeks ago we went here and stood at the counter forever waiting on someone to take our order. No one could be found. The kitchen was abandoned and looked quite dirty. Finally two guys entered through the back door and stood in the door way talking for few more minutes before approaching us. They informed us that they no longer serve the wings, which was a disappointment because we have had their ribs before and brisket and neither one were anything to write home about. Don't know if they changed management, but feel like I won't come here again. This place is inside Bucks backyard which is a great bar/ venue, but they should reconsider letting Shugabees call this place home because they are just not on par and need to step...
