Hummingbird Lounge — Restaurant in New Buffalo

Owner doesn't know ADA standards for service dogs; was super rude and even though I pulled out my dog ID, he insisted that, "service dogs must wear vests." (They do not.) Do you also go up to veterans and ask them for proof that they were in a war? Training is a lot of work and mine is nearing retirement. You never even offered her water. A bit respect and compassion goes a long way than being "that guy."

Then he tried to dissuade us from coming in by stating that food service was over at 8 (we were there at 8:05 for reservations and were there with kids) until one server notified him that we made prior reservations (oh, ok. So 8:05 for reservations for food then is ok but 8:05 as a walk-in, you're five minutes too late).

The table next to us complained about the exact same thing. They're locals and there was a man at the table so maybe that's why the owner went up a total of three* times to ask them how everything is versus ZERO times to ours.

Great food and cocktails and servers. Terrible and rude owner. Quoting a movie line that comes to mind, "you're just a doorman, doorman." My wife and I were thrilled to host our rehearsal dinner/welcome drinks for our wedding at Hummingbird. We could not have been more impressed with the result! The ownership and staff at Hummingbird were absolutely amazing. Our family worked with the event coordinator to have our party be a private event throughout the entire Hummingbird property. Our guests were so pleased with the many different areas of the property that were available to mingle in. These spaces were indoor, outdoor, and even some screened in outdoor space. The bartenders were fantastic and attentive. They handled a party of ~100 with ease and poise. The cocktails are truly out of this world. Whether it is a cocktail on the menu or the bartenders making a drink you have never heard of before, everything was delicious! Our group chose to do the taco buffet for dinner and it was fantastic. The food was amazing and it was so easy for everyone to grab food at their own pace.

Hummingbird has many different spaces for private events with the ability to host parties small and large. My wife and I could not recommend Hummingbird more for a private event, night out, or even a quick stop for an...

We usually go to Brewsters but decided to try something different. Bad idea! Many things went wrong-

1st. Service was very slow and not busy yet

2nd We had a loud obnoxious table near us tossing Ffombs *not the restaurants fault

3rd. The waiter accidentally picked up my phone off of our table thinking it was his. I was in a panic as I have work stuff on my phone and phone was lost for about 30 min. Not much of an apology for the issue? Free desert or maybe a drink for the mistake??

4th My fish N chips was over fried with just a thin piece of fish in it. Not good restaurant quality!

5th. We had ice tea and was charged around $15.00 for the small glass with a refill?? Hmm. The waiter said he wasn't sure if he should charge for refills so he errored on charging us!!! Keep in mind this was a very small glass with ice probably about 5 or 6 oz of tea. The waiter then said those small glasses are the same size as the water glasses! Did he really think we are that stupid? My wife poured the small glass into the water glass and it filled it at about 60%!!!

What a disaster Hummingbird! How does this place get good reviews. Next time we will stick...
