I wanted to chime in mainly because in some of the less than positive reviews, there were a few points I'd like to address.||Common complaint: noisy. My wife and I didn't find it noisy at all. Dead silent in our room on the second floor, in fact. One reviewer was bothered by train noise, which is weird because the Amtrak rails nearby are used maybe twice a day, tops. (I was disappointed that I didn't hear any train noise - I love it!) Another reviewer said you could hear neighboring rooms loud and clear. Well, we couldn't, and we know they were occupied! People in the hallway? Sure. Coming from other rooms? Uh-uh. HVAC system noise? Wasn't louder than anywhere else; just a quiet hum.||Someone complained about the lobby. Are you kidding me? As soon as we stepped inside, we were overwhelmed by how cool it looked! Very pleasant, very welcoming, very comfy.||Too pricy? I saw the prices people were saying they paid and I can't say they were that high for us; might be the time of year, I dunno. But I definitely feel we got what we paid for.||We stayed at Marina Grand because we usually stay at the New Buffalo Inn, but they were booked for the weekend we wanted. This was our first time at Marina Grand, and it will absolutely NOT be the last. (Don't get me wrong, we love the New Buffalo Inn, too, but we're glad to know we have more than one good option!)||The only complaint we had was that our air conditioner wasn't working. It was blowing, but the room was actually getting warmer. We mentioned that at the front desk when we were leaving to do some shopping, and when we got back, the room was nice and chilly! Love the fast turnaround there!||But the entire stay was great. Loved it!||Actually...I do have a minor complaint: the pool isn't heated so it might be too cold for some folks. Definitely was for me!||Notes for those in charge:||- There needs to be better indications as to how to get to the pool, game room, and fitness center. You need to go through a door that looks like an emergency exit to get to the pool, and there's no indication as to even what direction to go to get to the fitness center and game room -- you actually have to ask someone.||- This is not just directed to Marina Grand but ALL HOTELS in general. Nowadays with the advent of better diagnosing sleep disorders, more people are getting diagnosed with sleep apnea and require a CPAP or a biPAP. These devices need to be placed lower than the person sleeping. It would be nice to have something in the room that can be used to place a PAP device on (resting it on the carpet can cause a problem). The night table was much too tall, so I laid my suitcase down on its side and used that. But in general, it would be nice if those in charge across the hotel industry would keep this in mind when...
Read moreOur group of four rented a 2 bedroom suite for 2 nights in early December to celebrate 2 birthdays. While there were a few snafus upon check-in, the front desk staff eventually made things right which we appreciated.
Overall we had a good experience at the Marina Grand & the Bentwood Restaurant although as others mentioned, for the price, especially of the suites, there is room for improvement. Regardless, we had a great time & would return especially for the 1 or 2 bdrm suite. See below for Pros & Cons.
Pros: Suites are nicely appointed especially the living room-kitchen area with full kitchen. Beds were comfortable. Suite king bedroom had a HUGE soaker tub that was great! It also had double sinks & a nice shower with toiletries. Towels were decent. (The floors had a couple embedded stains.) The patios with Adirondack chairs facing the Marina were nice even in Dec. (altho we found a plastic bottle with cigarette butts on ours). The Bentwood Restaurant had good food & service for brunch. The hotel reception area with fireplace & Christmas tree was relaxing. Our suite had 2 fireplaces as well which we loved. There are beach bikes available for check out. My brother took one out for a lakefront ride in spite of the blustery weather. Overall the service was good & rooms were clean. Cons: We experienced some miscommunication which made check-in difficult. Better clean-up needed for outside areas including patios. Double queen bathroom shower/ tub combo needs updating. Either enlarge the tubs or ditch them & add a shower similar to the king suites. Add bottled water to mini fridges in non suites but keep water filter pitchers in the suites. Rooms need to be freshened up a bit (repainting, some flooring, add hooks if coat closets are locked as ours was & add more accessible outlets especially by the beds!). Freshen up or rehab the indoor pool & hot tub (needs to be hotter to keep bacteria in check). Pool could use a re-tile to brighten up the pool with the addition of some potted plants (real or faux) & paint job. The whole area was rather drab. Also all doors in the pool area were locked so we don't know if there was a place to shower off or change. A dry sauna would be a nice addition as would some clear signage in the hall directing you to the pool. There is nothing even indicating which direction to walk. Lastly we didn't notice any guest book in the room with information & amenities....
Read moreI spent 2 days researching different hotels, airbnbs, and resorts and so thankful I found this gem! I HIGHLY recommend this resort! What started as mini family vacation it turned into an amazing memorable experience with my bf proposing to me!
We stayed for 3 nights the first week of Jan for reference, and it was myself, my now fiancé, and our daughter. With it being Winter, everything mostly closed because of covid, and not much to do, we wanted to make sure our space was sufficient to relax and entertain us. We had the Corner Mariner Suite, and it was wonderful!
I have included multiple pictures of the whole suite, resort, and the bathroom, as I wasn't very satisfied with what is shown on the site. We wanted to have a big tub to soak and relax, and none of the images really showed that. For those interested in the tub, it's a nice large and deep soaking tub, and SO worth it! It was also nice to have a full kitchen with everything we needed. We ate out the first night, but chose to get some groceries and cook the rest of our stay. The restaurant options are limited right now, and the hotel restaurant was pricey for fairly basic options. Another perk is that their pool is actually open, and although you can only reserve it an hour at a time, it was nice to have it to ourselves. The staff was also very sweet and helpful! They also have some board games and dvd player with a huge selection of dvds you can use during your stay.
For things to do around town, there wasn't much open when we went, but the beach is super close and Michigan City, IN was only a 15-20 min drive.
There are 2 things that could be better. The bed was alright, but pretty stiff and wish it would have been softer. I wish the outlets were better placed throughout the suite. In the bedroom, there was one under the headboard between the mattress, 1 usb port on the clock, or one low behind the dresser that was hard to get to and we used that for our Firestick. There are 2 main ones in the living room but one is far from the couch/side table. If you have a lot of devices or want them near you, I'd make sure to bring long cords or even a power strip.
Overall the Marina Grand Resort is so wonderful! The the resort and town were quiet and quaint, the suite was cozy and roomy, everything was clean, all the staff were helpful and pleasant, and we will...
