My partner and I needed somewhere to have lunch that was kid-friendly and it seemed most places in the area were pubs/breweries, which is not the vibe we were looking for. This place looked perfect to pop in for a quick bite with a toddler.
The parking lot is half-paved, half dust and rocks, so if you're with someone with mobility restrictions, plan on dropping them off near the front.
They did have adequate amounts of high chairs for the amount of kids that were there, as well as a kids menu on their main menu. I did not see a changing table in the bathroom, but maybe it was inside the handicapped stall?
I got a strawberry cheesecake shake, and it was creamy and just sweet enough. I also got a burger with pepper jack cheese instead of the Velveeta because the cheese product doesn't sit well with my digestive system and we had a long drove home to Chicago. The burger needed seasoning, or at least salt. I did factor in that they usually use Velveeta, so maybe they cut out salting the meat since that "cheese" is so salty, but it was also dry, even though it was cooked medium-well.
It's perfectly fine, and not "bad" food. We can't have the best meal of our lives everywhere we go, right? Also, it was pretty busy (Sunday afternoon in the summer) and my partner ordered coleslaw with his burger, and we ordered applesauce as the side for our kid, but all 3 orders were brought put with fries, so don't get too attached to the idea of a side other than fries because you might just get fries. They are crinkle fries, the kind that are great with lots of ketchup. There are worse offenses in life, but that is why I put 4 stars instead of 5. The server was great, and the food was less greasy than I expected from a roadside burger spot. It was a safe and friendly atmosphere. There was parking and a place for my kid to sit. I'd stop here again based off of that, and I'd just try something new. Their salads...
Read more“The burger that made New Buffalo famous!”…. was a not so hilarious joke we realized after one bite into our food. I was excited to try something new as a tourist passing through & multiple reviews praised the food, particularly the burgers, and that’s what my partner wanted. I begged him to try this place versus a chain restaurant and that was a huge mistake.
Parking lot was packed, we waited 20 minutes to be seated. Our waitress was wonderful. Got some mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and they were ok. Not the best but also not the worst. We got two burgers, and two sizes of fries. The burgers are served wrapped in paper like a fast food restaurant. Paper plates plastic silverware.
Fries were not seasoned, and neither were the burgers. Took one bite and was immediately disappointed. It was like biting into a block of ground beef. No other tastes, not even salt or pepper. Why this place is raved about like it is i genuinely will never know. I seasoned both my burger and the fries at the table w salt and pepper and it wasn’t even redeemable. Burgers were also nearly an inch thick. disgusting amount of meat especially w no flavor with it.
The best thing about this place was the fountain sprite & the homemade ranch. The lack of accepting any other payment besides cash is also incredibly inconvenient. I wasted $63 on this meal for two people and could’ve gotten better flavor at Culver’s for a fraction of the cost. Obviously, we will never...
Read moreNever write reviews but this place has gone down hill big time, such a disappointment!!! I’ve been going here since the early 90s, and have lots of great memories, birthdays, and summer dinners over the years and always make a point to go whenever visiting home, but they haven fallen way off. The burgers are definitely not the same, while there have been changes throughout the years, the food always remained passable and tradition brought us back again and again, but this year the burgers were just big pucks of processed, flavorless, meat that were way over cooked, not seasoned and completely inedible. Most of us that ordered burgers didn’t even finish half of it and ended up thrown in the trash. Nothing like having to eat a PB&J at home after dropping $200 on burgers and fries. One plus about the food was my son enjoyed his sloppy joe sandwich which looked to be pretty tasty also the cheese fries remain the same. Service was also not great when we went as it took over an hour after sitting to order, and receive our food. It was by no means the servers fault, she had way to many tables and was doing her very best, so can’t fault that at all. Hope management reads this and seriously evaluates what they have done to the burgers because you can only operate on “Legend” status so long before your disappointed customers seek other establishments. Not too late to...
