AJ's Hot Dogs, Subs & Gyros — Restaurant in New Lenox

On the road all day from the Dakotas and I-80 was the usual parking lot so hoped off on hwy 30 and spotted this place. Gyros on the sign got my attention, not many options for us out on the Northern Prairie and we needed a pit stop. First thing I noticed was the prices, way cheaper than we're used to. I figured we were going to get mini gyros, so I also ordered a steak taco. The steak taco was way cheaper than Taco John's, so I had low expectations for that too. When the order was ready we jumped back in the car and proceeded on our way to MI. When we opened the bag - we got a surprise. The biggest gyros we'd ever seen, at 3 dollars less than what we usually pay and more than 3 times the size. The steak taco was also jumbo sized and both were heaping with meat plus accoutrements and tasted great. We could've shared one gyro and been full. We'll try to stop back on future travels to sample the subs next! Great service, busy place, but well...

Normally this place produces the best club sub around the area. Today I got a club sub sandwich from AJ gyro and it was subpar. It was so much worse than it normally is. Normally the large 12inch sandwich will fill you up after half a sandwich and is normally flavor town. Today was such a disappointment I don't know if I will return and I am a long time customer. Far less meat than usual and far less flavor than usual on the sandwich. Maybe the people they had working for them had quit that provided the supreme quality being that they have kitchen help wanted signs and an unusual person making the food I have never seen in there before. Very disappointed please contact the old cooks or chefs of that kitchen and find out how they used to make the food so good. Please fix this AJ...

We have been on a cross country trip for over 2 weeks now, and are now heading back home to Colorado, when we discovered AJ’s for our lunch stop as we were sick of your typical quick fast food places! This was one of the best meals we had on the whole trip! I had a wonderful Philly cheesesteak sandwich that was perfectly made! My son loved his bacon cheeseburger, and my husband and dog Finn highly approved of their charbroiled chicken sandwich! Everything was freshly made, cooked to order, including the fries, and it was done pretty quickly for the amount of food we ended up getting! Thanks AJ’s for a great meal!
