Sunrise Cafe is a culinary gem that offers a delightful dining experience with a unique blend of flavors and warm hospitality. During my visit, I had the pleasure of savoring some of their standout dishes, and I must say, it was a memorable culinary journey.
Chorros ala Challaca: The Chorros ala Challaca were a true highlight of the meal. Bursting with flavor and authenticity, these delectable treats showcased the culinary prowess of the kitchen. Each bite was a delightful journey of taste and texture.
Seafood Soup: The Seafood Soup was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to fresh ingredients and expert preparation. It was a rich and hearty bowl of goodness, brimming with the flavors of the ocean. A perfect choice for seafood enthusiasts.
Fried Fish with Homemade Mashed Potatoes and Fried Broccoli: The Fried Fish, accompanied by homemade mashed potatoes and fried broccoli, was a symphony of flavors and textures. The crispy fish, paired with the creamy mashed potatoes and the delightful crunch of fried broccoli, created a harmonious ensemble that left my taste buds thoroughly satisfied.
Sangria: To complement the meal, we enjoyed their homemade sangria, and it was an absolute delight. It had the perfect balance of fruity sweetness and a hint of zest, making it a refreshing and enjoyable beverage.
Service: The service at Sunrise Cafe was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. The staff's knowledge and recommendations enhanced our dining journey.
Feedback: The only minor note I have is the absence of gravy for the homemade mashed potatoes. While the potatoes were delicious on their own, a savory gravy would have been the icing on the cake.
In summary, Sunrise Cafe is a culinary haven where flavors come to life. The dishes are thoughtfully crafted, and the dedication to quality ingredients shines through in every bite. Whether you're seeking traditional favorites or adventurous new flavors, this restaurant has something for everyone. With exceptional dishes like Chorros ala Challaca, an inviting atmosphere, and friendly service, Sunrise Cafe is a must-visit destination for food...
Read moreMy partner and I ate here once before, prior to the changes in January. We really loved it and were happy to have found a nice little breakfast joint that was open later than 12-2pm on Sundays. Unfortunately, life got a bit hectic and we only just visited again today (3/10/2019). We brought along a family member because we remembered the food being quite good.
This time, we learned the place changed hands in January. The chef and waitress were new. Okay, no issue there, we all start out somewhere. Our sister ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. I got the eggs and fruit. My partner got the steak and eggs. The wait time was more for busy dinner rush and extremely disproportionate to what we ordered and for only 2-3 other booths taken. My order was good, no complaints there beyond the wait. My partner's order had a broken, overcooked egg without even an attempt to keep his order right (over medium eggs). The steak was well done and was leathery and stringy (he wanted medium rare). Our sister's order was horribly handled....
As previously stated she got the corned beef hash with eggs over medium, side of hollandaise. Her plate arrived about 5 minutes after our plates. Without the corned beef. We learned that the chef speaks Spanish and didn't quite understand. Okay, no problem. Corned beef came out and it looked like someone just put a steaming pile of dog food on it. The smell was really bad and completely unappetizing. She ended up just having the waitress take it away because the smell got to be pretty sickening.
The amount of time it took to get the food you would expect it to have been freshly made from scratch. Unfortunately, I do not think we will be back. It was such a nice little place and now it seems to be going way downhill. It was nice to see the Peruvian menu, and it all looked pretty good on paper. But the wait time and quality of American breakfast items just turned us off from this place. It is sad, and I had high hopes for this place. I might try it again later in life but not...
Read moreWe came here because of the 4 1/2 star reviews but were sadly disappointed.
Interestingly, they serve both American and Peruvian food, although the menu only shows the normal American breakfast and lunch options. The Peruvian selections may be dependent on what the cook feels like making. The Peruvian cook was having some sort of difficulties the day we were there, because several patrons were turned away.
The cook making the American food was fine though, our waitress told us. We ordered pancakes, French toast, and bacon for the children, and a fish sandwich with fries for my husband, and some homemade corn chowder for me.
The food took an unusually long time to come out, although the place was not crowded. We were even considering leaving when it finally arrived. The waitress was friendly, but kept forgetting things. We had to ask a few times before she remembered to bring tartar sauce for the fish.
As far as taste, we probably would have done better all the way around with a chain diner like Denney's. The fish was freshly battered, but had some kind of sandy grit here and there, and more coating than fish. The pancakes were pale and limp, but were eaten happily by the children, albeit soaked in syrup. The highly-touted corn chowder tasted burned and lacking seasoning. I added salt, pepper, and hot sauce to make it palatable.
On a high note, the French fries were hot and fresh, and when we ordered more for the table they came out quickly.
I would have liked to have tried the Peruvian dishes - there is apparently a large Peruvian community in New London and they seem to frequent the place, so I'm assuming it's good. I wish we could have said the same for the...
