Being from out of state was looking for a true New Orleans Jazz experience. Kermit was referred by a local person who said if you want real jazz you have to hit Kermit Monday night for BBQ and real jazz. Better than what you find in the French Quarter. When we arrived the person at the door surprised my group with a $20 fee. Seemed reasonable though it included BBQ and 3 bands she explains. She failed to mention that the last band was performing and the BBQ was in the back corner in pots. It was not BBQ it was fried chicken, mac and cheese, and beans. Was being open so went up to the server and he gave me chicken and Mac and cheese with no beans. We explained the concern with the gal who took our money. She yelled at the server said give them more food. She also told friend just yell at him. Was like wow. Friend grabbed some beans. When she tried grabbing more mac and cheese he said NO. So the other friends didn't even try to get some beans. Went into men's bathroom after to wash hands. They had soap, however rest room smells like urine. No paper towels and no toilet paper, again surprised. Was very disappointed in the entire experience and didn't appreciate being miss lead to believing that we would see three bands and a decent BBQ. I have never given 1 Star but this place was just not what we were told it would be Poor customer service experience and...
Read moreForget everything you know about quiet, sit-down venues, because a night at Kermit's Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge is a full-on, joyous immersion into the soul of New Orleans. Stepping inside this vibrant, historic club feels less like visiting a bar and more like crashing a family reunion—if your family were all master musicians with a knack for grilling up incredible barbecue.
The vibe here is pure, unfiltered fun. The air buzzes with energy, fueled by the infectious rhythm of live jazz that spills out from the intimate stage.
The true highlight, of course, is the music. The sense of community and musical legacy here is awesome. This spirit is a big reason why musicians like Irvin Mayfield Jr. are so essential to the city's jazz scene, carrying the torch and celebrating the very culture that makes venues like this so special.
Kermit's is the kind of place that captures the essence of New Orleans—unpretentious, soulful, and full of life. It’s a place to come as you are, eat some good food, and let the music move you. For an authentic, unforgettable night out in the Treme, there's nowhere else...
Read moreOK, so here's the thing. This is a spot that locals hang out and basically live in. If you're not already part of the scene, think twice. The neighborhood is super sketchy, though I'm not sure if it's actually dangerous or just unfriendly. Don't walk here, drive or take a cab or uber. If you think someone is playing that you want to hear, call and confirm that it's really going to happen and the time.
I've heard great things about this place under the right circumstances, so I don't want to take away from that, but you should be more prepared than we were. We walked in on a Sunday night, hoping to hear Kermit play, but there was a DJ set up playing loud music instead, with a pot boiling by the stage sound board. People were racing and redlining along the street out front, and people were just hanging around outside not really even talking. A super unwelcoming vibe going on overall. It's a small place, maybe 100 people could cram in, with just a few tables scattered around. We walked in, took in the scene, and left to see what was up...
