We had been looking forward to dining here for months! First, the food and aesthetics of the restaurant were wonderful. It has an old school steak house feel, it reminded me of Crescent City Steaks, just more modern. It's so disheartening and disrespectful in 2019 to still deal with blatantly different service in a fine dining establishment due to race (it was the only difference between us and the other restaurant patrons). Especially in a city whose main economic draw is tourism. Either they don't realize you notice it or maybe they just don't give a f÷@%! I can only speak on the experience we had at this restaurant, if our treatment was due to something other than race we could not identify it. We dine out a lot, everything from holes in the wall to fine dining establishments and sadly this type of treatment is still very prevalent. We pride ourselves on being exceptional tippers 20% is our norm. I will tip a lackluster server no less than 15%. I tip this way because I understand they don't think "we" are tipping at all let alone tipping properly. Needless to say, we won't be back anytime soon. I will say we have dined at their sister restaurant Desi Vega and the service was amazing!

This was a good time. Was in town for just a couple days and got reservations only because some unlucky diner couldn't make it and canceled . The place was packed. For good reason. Hostess seated us at what I would consider the best table in the house. In the corner by the windows with a great view of St Charles right outside. Didn't order apps but our server brought my guest and I each a single meatball and sauce dusted with just the right amount of parmesan . It was straight 🔥. I had ordered a ceasar and it arrived soon after. The dressing was tasty which carried the salad just a click or 2 over "ok" The beef showed up right on time. We had the ribeye and a filet. With the house Mac n cheese and garlic mashed potatoes . The sides were good not great but we weren't at Mr John's Side and salad house. We were at his steak place.. And they did the damn thing. Steaks were cooked perfectly and were not one bite short of OUTSTANDING . Seasoned so that it perfectly complimented the flavor of the beef. Great steaks. Definitley recommend especially if you are staying on one of the floors above the restaurant because it was time to lay down afterwards. Thanks for a great meal.

It was okay, but there was two mistakes on a table for three, which is still not necessary a huge deal, mistakes happen, but the real reason I give them 2 stars is honestly the steak was quite tough and chewy (seemed almost like tri tip), it was a weird big square cut not a normal flat steak, ordered medium but it seemed more medium well, there was no perceptible marbling of fat in the meat, and I hate to even mention price, but at $60 for a steak with no sides, I really expect a cut of meat that melts in your mouth. Also some little seeming issues such as: I ordered a sprite, and busboys came by twice and filled it up with water, and then when I said it was sprite, they apologized but didn't bring another sprite, so I was left drinking a glass of half water half sprite. I ordered my steak add blue cheese but it didn't have that, then when I mentioned it to the waiter, he said he could bring a side of blue cheese, but the whole point is kind of for the blue cheese to be melted on the steak. So def some issues. I would not eat here again.

I had a reservation that was a month ago. , I feel as though I want to share all the unprofessional experience I had firsthand of all the things that went wrong. First of all my server Lloyd presented hiself like as though we were friends not a customer, continuing from there I asked for a champagne cocktail which I was told they don’t have the ingredients to make my drink ???? Okayyyy ummm he said they have a full bar ? Then I was given menus but not a wine list ???? Why not I am at a steakhouse was I being profile that maybe I couldn’t afford it or something like he didn’t feel it was necessary. So I continued to buying a bottle of red wine over a $130 dollars because I am a wine drinker but a good one at that . So I ordered the crab cake which was disappointing and then a fly was flying around and landed in my friend drink so he takes it away bring back another red wine which we were not drinking and just dropped it and never said what it was cause a fly landed in her drink which was not at all our fault but I would of wanted to know what it was cause I would want it to be comparable of the bottle of wine we were drinking., there was a manager on duty who was just standing around and watch the whole thing unfold but did nothing about it or address the problem of what had happened. Moving forward I see another server working next table to me offer their table menus and wine list with much care and quality service. This restaurant is on St Charles avenue which I thought would have been a great experience but no this was my first and last time dining there !!!!! I asked for my bill and I still tipped him accordingly because I have worked in restaurants fine fine dining for over 30 years so you see you never know who you are serving and everyone who comes there should all be treated equally. It was disappointing your manager needs to be more involved then just standing and leaning on the wall cause that’s no help for making return business for Mr John steakhouse, I hope you get this review and take it seriously that your restaurant is ran half ass to be in a city of great food and...

This was a bit of a disappointment by the unfriendliness of the greeting of the hostess, matradee(owner) and Bartender that started off our evening poorly... the only saving grace was due to our lovely waiter and the actual lovely food(good steaks, lovely prepared sides we ordered with it and appetizer) we spend $200+ on our meal and gave a 20%+ tip to our very lovely waiter that was friendly & attentive. We were dissapointed with the coldness of the Bartender not seeing if we needed a drink while waiting at the bar before being seated and it was as if we were on purpose being ignored (where he was too busy making drinks for the staff to care about us). Also the matradee(owner) did not stop by to see how our dinning experience was- but my husband could see he had stopped by every other table in the dinning room that night. This was to be a special Birthday dinner I had made reservations way in advance(month before our trip) and we also were guests staying at the attached hotel;Wyndham Avenue- which one would think with that- they would treat us a little better than how we had been. The food was excellent(was a very well prepared steak dinner, and the sides were lovely)... but the lack of welcoming of the initial hostess/matradee and bartender definitely left a bad impression on that night for this supposedly high end and highly rated long standing establishment.. bit of a disappointing & disheartening evening of initial expectations. If back in NOLA- this may not be a 2nd visit to John's Steakhouse for the lack of warmth &...

I cannot rate the food or atmosphere because we have not had a chance to step foot in the restaurant. We had 2 special occasions booked here & both were canceled by the restaurant. The first one in May, I honestly understand. They called us a few hours before our reservation letting us know their a/c went out. We were able to get in last minute at Chophouse.

However, the 2nd time was in November. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. My husband set the reservation well in advance. I wouldn’t think that they decided 2 weeks before that they would be closed Thanksgiving weekend which also happens to be Bayou Classic weekend. The restaurant canceled our reservation, but no one called to inform us or even apologize for the inconvenience. Being that this is the 2nd time, you would think someone would have. The right thing to do in this situation would have been to call your guests if you are canceling their reservations ESPECIALLY if it is noted that they are celebrating an anniversary. If they don’t answer, leave a voicemail. Instead, they only sent an email which can easily get overlooked or sent to spam & that’s exactly what happened. To our surprise, we found out a couple of hours before our “reservation” that the restaurant was closed and they also did not put that in the email...we called them & it was in their voicemail. They actually gave no reason for cancellation in the email. They did in fact spoil what was supposed to be a...
