Quite disappointing service. I was eager to have breakfast here as my last experience here in 2018 was wonderful, but the second time lacked the charm. 35 minute wait for cold eggs, and the grits that I’d ordered weren’t accompanied (nor was the lemon I’d asked for my water and my friend’s herbal tea). My friend ordered a simple toast. The toast was served cold and took 35 minutes. My other friend received his complete order, but after having waited so long for our food, he had to get a to-go box.

From what I could see of his grits (since mine never arrived) they were quite dense and served in a lump—looked more like a scoop of ice cream. There were two service members taking and serving orders, and neither seemed particularly concerned about the wait time or our dissatisfaction with the service. Our server brought the lemon with the check.

It wasn’t unusually busy. I’d hate to think that service was intentionally bad to discourage black patrons from returning, but I wouldn’t be surprised. My friends and I are all professionals, but we were dressed casually.

Unfortunately, I would not...

We just walked in for a grab and go cup of coffee. It was very busy which I understood. There was a girl at the counter which we stood at for around 5 minutes who never mentioned once hey we’ll be right with you. I work it customer service and this is my biggest pet peeves. It’s so simple. Finally a guy helps us and I order just a basic drip coffee with room for cream. I get the cup and it’s not your traditional paper cup. It’s like a type of plastic. It’s very hot to the touch. Especially where we were on foot walking around being able to hold. I asked the guy if there were sleeves by the location of the half and half. He grabs some from behind and then throws them toward me on the counter. He then says to me “they’re double insulated cups, but if it’s too hot for you, there you go.” I thought we’ll Jeeze maybe it’s just me, so I ask my boyfriend to hold the cup with no context and he’s like wow that’s really hot. So it wasn’t just me. It was extremely rude. And there wasn’t any reason for the person to throw the sleeves at me. The gesture was belittling. I will...

I did a lot of good eatin’ during my week in New Orleans, but I must say that breakfast at Silver Whistle Cafe was a standout meal! The atmosphere was delightful - historic charm with just enough modern taste. The coffee was some of the best I had in NOLA. Even seemingly simple dishes had a remarkable quality; for instance, the breakfast parfait was perfection. I usually don’t order this sort of dish in a restaurant since it’s easy to assemble at home, and prepared versions are usually too sweet. But this was better than any parfait I’ve ever made! The granola tasted homey and intensely nutty, and was layered with thick unsweetened yogurt and fresh fruit. The balance between crunchy/creamy and tangy/sweet was ideal. The egg white frittata didn’t sound especially exciting on paper, but it was amazingly flavorful while still being light. And again, the textural counterpoint offered by fresh greens and radishes made things interesting & balanced. The service was speedy and friendly, too. Overall, it was an easy-going and lip-smacking...

A historic wonder brought back to life and worth it just for the gorgeous interior (also check out the bar across the hotel lobby as it's hand painted bayou murals are fabulous too). The grits are stone ground and substantial. A true historic recipe that makes them absolutely delicious without adding cheese or anything else. I loved them. Also the hash browns are cooked in duck fat and delicious. Don't write them off. I had the pimento cheese omelette because weight gain be damned, I want a decadent culinary adventure, and I was in no way disappointed.
