It is Gathering at the Fountain.

Sandwiched between St. Charles and Magazine Streets, surrounded by an old neighborhood, the park with plenty of open space appears to be the a shared, common playground for the folks and their dogs living in the area. Lukas and I spend several times waiting on the corner of Race and Camp Streets for the RTA bus going to Canal Street. During this time we studied the action across the street. This corner was one block up from St. Vincent’s Guest House where we were staying at Race and Magazine Streets. On two other occasions we hike diagonally across the park heading to St. Charles Tavern. We see joggers traveling down the median path shaded by oaks in the middle of Camp Street. Groups of people on bicycles stop to take a break here. There are a lot of people walking. Single walkers and small groups of walkers trek to this green space in the Lower Garden District. Some people have their dogs on leash. Several dogs are off leash running freely about, jumping into the fountain pool, catching frisbees, just having a good time. We did not witness any dog fights. If you are staying in the area, kick back and relax on one of the park’s benches. Take a rest, chill out,...

Where to begin... Some of the smoothest cruising pavement in the city is located right at this very park, and your feet will appreciate it! I went out there with the shorty and she skated her little self to the point of exhaustion on her prized cruiser board. She even took her shoes off to skate barefooted, speaking to the pristine nature of the public space. Park along the street and rent one of the new Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue bicycles and "go mobile" as Bane would say (lol). The variety of coffee shops and little eateries in the area can satisfy even the most particular pallettes, essentially guarantee a (ful)filling experience. Romantically dim in the evenings, and the openness of the area provided a secure sensation as you and yours hang here until the sun is long...

We have gone to this park hundreds of times in the past few years, since we live nearby. We want to LOVE it, but we don't. It's not a very clean park, and we have small children that like to play in the grass. Too many dog owners, some with herds of dogs, and not enough plastic bags. For that reason, we would recommend it for dog owners more than parents. The big fountain is lovely when it runs, which is most of the time. The trash cans rarely seem to get emptied, though, and the benches need a cleaning. On school mornings, the students of the International School of Louisiana are filling the park with life and laughter, which is a welcome addition to the dogs. Update: There is a second fountain that just got restored by a group of citizens after decades of...

The weather, should you not be familiar with New Orleans' weather can change drastically and quickly. The air was humid as heck, but the park was beautiful to look at. Then later, within minutes, it was like a deluge... In the mornings, there are a few people walking their dogs there. Most appear to bagged the 💩... Although there was one lady there apparently every morning, that let's her dogs run about, unleased and doesn't mind her dogs too well either as they run out barking at other dogs being walked... She has about 6 to 8 of them...

Took my dog here in the middle of a hot afternoon and it was lovely. People were letting their dogs cool off in the huge, shallow fountain and it was surrounded by benches to hang out in the sun and about a block or two of green space underneath huge, amazing old oak trees. People were scattered around on blankets or not, just reading or chilling out. Very cool. One guy was even in a hammock (not sure if anyone was going to yell at him for using the old trees but it seemed ok)

The Coliseum Square Park was the centerpiece of a New Faubourg built over Madame Delord-Sarpy’s plantation. The three acre park was designed in 1806 by a French Architect. It has been remodeled over the years and is still a lovely spot. The park is shady with a lot of seating. Large open areas allow children to have fun playing but there is no playground equipment as such.
