Delachaise is one of the more interesting venues to visit Uptown. It has been doing the same thing all of the new "Gastropubs" were doing years before anybody decided to call a bar serving semi-fancy food that silly name. The food is generally a bit pricey and ranges from average to very excellent with frequently changing items. They also offer several cheese plate selections that are very nice quality. The food seems to be more of a French Bistro style than what has been done at the other "Gastropub" incarnations.
They unfortunately don't offer Abita Amber but they generally do have some very good wine and some German beers that will satisfy me. The charm and curse of this place is the long and narrow architecture of the building that limits seating and allows it to easily get crowded. The bathroom situation really doesn't do well with crowds. Service can be slow when the bar is crowded and if I can't get a seat at the bar I just go elsewhere as I'm not waiting that long. The crowd is variable and some nights it is great and other nights I have no clue what alien planet landed their ship outside the bar and let their refugees out. It is certainly a good place to hang out if you can get I seat and I prefer the less...
Read moreThe Delachaise has always been a staple of this area since I first started coming to the city. Now that I live near enough to walk to it I can say with certainty that it's as cool a place as it's ever been. The staff is chill and the selections are great. The food is pretty darn irresistable (just try to sit and not order (good fat) fries with extra (malt vinegar) aioli...), I definitely recommend the steamed Mussels, Fra Diavalo, they're probably the best I've ever had (I'm not usually a big fan of those).
Even tf you're not a wine afficionado, they have other things to slake your thirst but when you get a feel for the vibe of the place and the hospitality of their staff, you'll most likely be asking for a recommendation. Don't let the cool ambiance scare you off, pretentious it is not, and there's a reason it's been such a staple in the neighborhood all these years. The outside courtyard is nice, too, and even in the heavy heat of New Orleans you'll find it pairs well enough with an ice-chilled bottle of wine to even things out for ya.
BTW, the prices are...
Read moreHave been here multiple times. Great wine bar with a lot of outdoor and indoor seating with an eclectic vibe. Very large wine selection but also have a full bar and a large beer selection. This last time we were here the coolers were broken and the kegs empty so unfortunately they had absolutely no beer. Bartenders were a little gruff but nice and friendly, contradictory but true. We had several items from the menu and they were all good. The best was the charcuterie board. The deviled eggs were creamy and the salmon wasn’t overpowering. The steak bruschetta was good but had a little too much smoke flavor for me. The chicken wings are very very heavily breaded/battered which I really enjoyed but another person in my group didn’t like that. Definitely not your traditional wing but very good. We didn’t ask questions about the wines so I can’t comment on the knowledge of the servers, but I was able to taste a couple that I was interested in before choosing the one I wanted. This place is casual, comfortable and a must try. I really enjoyed it every...
