12/7/18 Always a great evening when coming here on date night. Forgot to make reservations (again), but they did have a small table available, which we gladly took. Our server was super nice, as is all the staff. Southern hospitality and all. Ordered a couple of appetizers. The Meatballs on Garlic toast is an old favorite. The meatball is tasty, flavorful and the red sauce accents the flavor even more. The garlic toast is good for sopping up the last bit. We ordered the Rose of Sicily also...first time. It's marinated Roman artichoke, fried then topped with procuitto, basil, cherry tomatoes, garlic & olive oil. Wow!! It's delicious. The artichoke is tender inside, and fried goodness outside. Wonderful! I got the Roasted beet salad, and it's just super. Light vinaigrette, good greens..yummy. For my entree, I got the Double Stuffed Pork Chop, which is a double-cut pork chop breaded and stuffed with a seafood stuffing, topped with a light pineapple demi-glace. It's a little sweet, but perfectly done, and sooo good. It's a lot of food, so I brought some home and ate it the next day. Double good. Babycakes had her usual, the Stuffed Chicken Breast, which is chicken breast stuffed with provolone cheese, prosciutto and artichoke hearts-breaded, baked and topped with a mushroom Marsala sauce. She loves this dish, and I do, too. This is a classic Italian Ristorante, perfect for a night out.
8/7/17 I'd go 4.5 stars even! Old Italian Restaurante feel, lots of servers, and wait staff overwhelming a small space. Management looking in on everything, talking to the regulars. Well, someday I hope to be one of those regulars! We walked in without reservations (we called earlier and were told reservations were not necessary) and got a very small table in the side dining room. I'm a big guy, and it was a PRETTY small table. Anyway, we ordered drinks... They came.. Water... THE FOOD: We ordered "Meatball on Garlic Toast" as an appetizer. The veal meatball was tender, seasoned perfectly, simply scrumptious, and even though it's HUGE.. left me wanting another! Its in a red sauce with garlic and oregano TOAST. Beautiful. Wow. My tastebuds are recalling the flavors now....HMMMM!! I got Corn and Crab Bisque in a bread bowl as a soup upgrade ($6.00 more), and it was also... superb. Creamy, and savory with crab and corn flavors, and bits of crab and whole corn in it. Sooooo delicious!!
We got House Salads, mine with house vinaigrette, the girl who would be my girlfriend got a Bleu Cheese vinaigrette in hers. The greens were fresh and delicious and the house vinaigrette had a bright flavor, not too oily or vinegary. As far as the House Salad with Bleu Cheese vinaigrette, I was told it was the best salad of her life. I didn't try it, but judging by her expressions, the girl who would be my girlfriend was not making it up. ENTREES..... I ordered the Italian Sausage served on Angel hair with red sauce. The Italian Sausage was sweet and flavorful with anise and oregano and hit my nose as well as the tongue. Great taste. The red sauce had great tomato flavor, and was herb-y and good. I was disappointed with the Angel hair pasta. It was overcooked and flat tasting. The star of the night (besides her) was what my girl ordered. The Stuffed Chicken Breast. Stuffed with provolone, prosciutto, and artichoke hearts, then breaded, baked topped with mushroom marsala. The chicken done perfectly with all that stuffed, tasty goodness in it.....but then you have delicious, thick mushrooms in a marsala sauce that tastes of wine, smokey goodness, and savoryness that I haven't tasted that good since...... ever! I WILL be ordering it next time. Parking is a little tough being on St. Charles, but we'll take the streetcar next time. It's my new favorite...
Read moreI've traveled a fair amount abroad and travel is required very frequently in my line of work. I love to try new food and whats popular, but I also stick to my true favorites like Italian. Lived in Louisiana all my life and my wife and I come to New Orleans 1-2x and month, always trying something new. We've passed this location several times and we always wanted to stop in some time. And wow, we were soo glad we chose to come here tonight.
The atmosphere was dimly lit but very lively. The hostess was personable and the waiter was very about business yet had a warmer side. I asked him about the restaurant and it's history and he gave me a brief run down of the family and turns out he's a nephew of the late Vincent, and has been working with the restaurant 34 years.
The food was awesome start to finish, the bread was very hot and the whipped butter was wonderful with it. Our entrée's came with a vegetable soup but she opted out of the soup and upcharged slightly getting the salad. The salad was absolutely worth it, it had a delicious pesto in it. I had the lasagna and she had the cannelloni, of which I paired wine with mine-she paired a Pomegranate Limoncello Martini with hers. If that didn't hit the spot enough, we decided to knock ourselves out and go for dessert! We shared the Tiramisu and got a Cannoli (to-go), the TIramisu was soo good we were over the moon after the Cannoli (couldn't wait). Soo all in all we were impressed which isn't all the time at a restaurant, it's luck of the draw. But if you're looking for romantic-esc hole-in-the-wall and delicious food, look no further. Shout out to Ray our server, the nephew of the original founder, the...
Read moreMy buddy and I are in town for jazzfest. We couldn’t find a reservation on a Saturday night for any of the downtown hot spots, so we took a flyer on Vincent’s ( which is located about 15 minutes out of center city in a lovely residential area). We are so glad we did. It’s amazing. The place was busy, but extremely accommodating. My kind of place. Very homey and completely non pretentious, and totally authentic. It didn’t seem like it was frequented by many tourists ( other than us- lol). The patrons all seemed like regulars. Our server was great. Both my buddy and myself had a tough time selecting from the most appealing selection of apps and main courses I have ever read. I could have ordered the entire menu. Nothing sounded like regular fare. Finally we chose an eggplant app which was splendid and an equally delectable order of escargot. For main courses we ordered the house specialty of stuffed canaloni and a colossal stuffed pork chop. But were as good as it gets. There was nothing left in either of our tanks for dessert. For a moment both of us had tinkered with the thought of ordering a multi course Italian feast for $65 per person, but neither of us wanted to be glutens, so we passed on it for now. This might be amongst the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to in my life ( and I’m sort of a pretty old guy who’s dined in about a bazillion places in my day- lol).
Can’t recommend Vincent’s enough. As Tony the Tiger stated 30 years ago-...
