Ei ei ei! I’m on vacation every single day ‘cuz I LOVE Eva Deans!!! 🤣🤣🤣! But seriously you guys… this place is gold. I’ve come in here to twice to try and snag a table— stupid, stupid, stupid! Ya know why? It was a Saturday mornin’! No tables available! Hah! But I came in here looking for a table on a late Tuesday morning and finally got a place to sit. And boy, oh boy… mah tastebuds were dancin like it was the turn of the century! (No but really, didn’t we all have craazyyy parties on y2k… with a little too much fun… too much dancing… prolly one two many drinks 😅🤣)??!! I DIGRESS! I brought my whole family here. Child son, child daughter, child wife… hah! No! I mean, my wife isn’t THAT immature… 🤣🤣 but she DID order chocolate chip waffles! She’s got a big sweet tooth… many even a mouth full of ‘em! And I’ll tell ya… I had a bite and oh Lordy they were oh so chocolatey! But not like an obscene American portion. It was just doable. Now, you’re probably wondering… Joseph! What did you get? I got the adult grilled cheese. Yeah, I was in a lunch mood. Sue me! It came with a nice tomato soup and the grilled cheese had multiple types of cheeses! If you want to kick it old school with a good ‘ol grilled cheese, ya gotta come here! Yet, it has that modern flair that keeps the cancellation generation (gen Z 😂) all satisfied. It comes on sourdough and a drizzle o’ honey. My daughter and son shared the turkey BLT special. Why would that appeal to kids ya may ask?? Well, let’s just say… Pops made them get something a little healthier than usual 😅. Both of them had the tantrum of the century when I deleted a game off their iPads.. called.. roadblocks? Rowlocks? I don’t give a beaver’s dam 🤣🤣🤣 you DON’T play that game DURING your abuela’s funeral!! Come on! Short story long, they’re grounded, so I made them get something that looked a little healthier. But… it backfired, and they loved it! Ya really can’t miss at Eva Deans! In all seriousness to any viewer who sees this… I just know that this is the emerging Wilmette staple. It has so much more charm than one of those modern Winnetka $30 coffee shops (if ya know, ya know 😅) but it still has those great options and classic flavors with modern influences. Just beware… if you’re a “large party” (I think 3 or more), they automatically charge 20% tip. So if ya don’t got deep pockets and are tight on budget for this meal, keep this in mind.
Just a guy who loves good fun and honest...
Read moreIf you are a fan of Bennison's, you will recognize and enjoy many of the bakery items at EvaDean's. The bakery is outstanding with shades of European influence in many of the pastries. The selection isn't as broad as at Bennison's, but they do have quite a few of the same recipes, it seems and some absolutely stunning original ones. Love to have the selection of breads and pastries within walking distance and so convenient! That said, the restaurant is separate and offers a fairly eclectic mix of breakfast and lunch. Lots of egg dishes, pancakes, waffles but almost everything contains meat. There is a curious lack of fruit or much in the way of vegetarian or healthful options. The soups we had were excellent. The tomato basil had some kick to it, which I really enjoyed. The only quiche they had was meat, which was disappointing. We were expecting a better wine list and the descriptions of many of the wines didn't provide the vintage or who makes it. That information would be nice to know prior to ordering. Dessert was even more confusing because the menu says things like, "Piece of cake." Well. What kind of cake? We were hoping for pie, but when we asked our waiter, he suggested we walk into the bakery area to check for ourselves what was available. I feel like the servers should know. The service here is very hospitable and attentive but there is a bit of a language barrier. My husband was served espresso in a regular coffee cup with a regular teaspoon. They should have the appropriate cups and spoons. The restaurant space is large with cool original ceilings but the noise level is really bad, especially with the loud music they were playing. It's also a little pricey for a brunch place. Basically, while I really love and frequent the bakery, I'm a little less enthusiastic about the restaurant, mainly because I am not into meat and heavy brunch food. Update: Second time here. Service was only ok. The menu is still very heavy and meat centric. This time, the tomato soup was laden with croutons which I didn't like. I still prefer the bakery to the restaurant side, because I am vegetarian and there just isn't much on the...
Read moreStopped in a couple of Saturday mornings ago to grab coffee (an Americano which was very nice) in the bakery (the cakes look AMAZING) and my friend and I decided to stay for breakfast in the cafe.
The food was so good! Since I wasn't familiar with the place and it's new, I ordered the eggs benedict because eggs benedicts taste the same everywhere, right? No. Evadean's Eggs Benedict had a lovely, lightly toasted, HOMEMADE English Muffin, with fresh cuts of country ham, beautifully poached eggs, and a light/buttery/creamy hollandaise. Now I wish I had looked over the menu more and had gotten something a bit less mainstream because their everyday dish was delightful.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with thoughtful touches, and the bar in the restaurant looks really inviting. I imagine that the outdoor patio is going to be very busy when the weather is warmer. Service was prompt and friendly, manager politely visited towards the end of the meal to check-in on how we liked everything. My plate had been scraped clean, and I'm someone who doesn't usually hesitate to just eat half of a meal and take the rest, so...it was obvious that they are starting something very special...
