I went there yesterday with 6 of my friends and had more people meeting me there to celebrate my birthday. Where should I begin... it wasn’t open at the time posted because the cook as well as bartenders weren’t there. People was standing outside in the rain. Finally we were allowed in around 6 and as we walked in we were cut off by the most obnoxious rude unprofessional bartender throwing metal reserve signs on the tables. We stopped to let her finish tossing the signs and went to 2 of the tables she left open I asked are the tables ok and she said yes. We sat down ordered food and drinks and began enjoying my day. The place was empty there were only 2 other tables occupied and less than 5 people at the bar, the atmosphere was calm after 1 1/2 hours of enjoying ourselves 2 women arrive and the rude unprofessional bartender comes over and tells us to move our belongings from the table we were occupying because it’s reserved.. how can it be reserved after being occupied by me for 1 1/2 hours. Since I didn’t get her name I’ll describe her 5’7 170lbs black glasses hair up in ponytail hates her job. Andrew and Sonya were great but this woman belongs on the unemployment line. I couldn’t understand why we had to move when there were so many unoccupied empty tables. Then the bartender sent security over to explain the table was for regulars I didn’t want to hear it and the more he spoke I realized it was time to leave. There was no way I was gonna lower or degrade myself or my guests by arguing or getting into it with fake security or anyone else but my dissatisfaction was made clear my guests paid the tab and we left on the way out I saw my additional guests explained what happened and we went to another local bar and had drinks food and fun. After talking to other patrons I learned that happens a lot in 95 South. The owner of this bar needs to reevaluate the employees and it’s practices why make people move when there are more than 10 tables empty. My intentions were to leave by 9 but instead I was thrown out at 730. I’ve been there before overlooked the creeps and hoodrats because the drinks and food are good but never again. It was obvious we weren’t the regular crowd we had teeth our clothes weren’t sagging and we were articulate. Avoid this place and spare yourself the frustration disrespect and inconvenience myself and my guests experienced. Try Sweet Brooklyn, 704 or Essence...
Read moreWent here with some friends for brunch and was a bit disappointed. For starters upon arrival the restaurant looks closed for the outside , luckily one of the staff members were outside and invited me in. Upon entering, the restaurant is very spacious and clean.( I can easily see this as the perfect venue to throw an event) . I ended up getting there way ahead of my two friends and the bartender took pity on me and offered me a mimosa on the house, which tasted amazing. Once my friends arrived, we ordered a plethora of food ranging from chicken and waffles, steak and eggs, fish and grits along with a picture of mimosas. my friend seem to enjoy their food. However, I thought the food was a bit underwhelming (I had the chicken and waffles). please know this is personal preference and also know that I’ve brunched quite a bit, and this was very underwhelming to me simply on taste. My friends seem to have enjoyed their food and didn’t make any complaints. The service was great and not too long after my friends arrived, so did the DJ. Pros: Very nice vibey atmosphere, especially once the music is going. The staff are very nice and accommodating as they needed to be a few changes made to one of my friends order because she is vegetarian. Although I did not like my food, the portion sizes were really good, especially for the price and they have vegetarian options. CONS: when they have brunch, that is the only thing available to order which sucks because the brunch menu is very limited in comparison to their dinner menu. I do think I’ll return as I do think they’re done the menu is much more appealing to me. It seems like the night scene is where it’s at up in there lololol. So for now until next time as I’ll...
Read more95 South had horrible drinks, bad ambiance, and poor customer service. We went for drinks and when we entered, were not greeted by the only person working there who appeared to be the bartender. She looked at us as if we had walked into her home unannounced. We went to the bar and said we'd like to have a drink. Before we could even finish the sentence she stated we could not take alcoholic beverages to go; however, we were not asking to take them to go. Thereafter, she said "Okay, do you know what you want?" I responded, "No, can we please see a menu?" If I'm asking for a menu at a restaurant, and not immediately being offered one, something is already wrong. We ordered a margarita and sangria and both were watered down and had cheap liquor. I really wanted to support a Black-owned business...but it is not enough to just be a Black-owned business. Customers should not have to lower their standards in the process of this support. I would not recommend anyone patronize this...
