Veggies Natural Juice Bar — Restaurant in New York

Do not go here because this place is not LGBTQ friendly AND THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!! I went in this establishment yesterday around 4:30 PM with my best friend, both of us wanted an ackee patty. When we walked in there was a Jamaican man, with no name tag, he didn’t even look at me and my friend so he could take out orders. He only took the orders of people who came after us, and when I tried to get his attention he ignored me. Then went on to take the orders of the woman after me and everyone after her. After who minutes another worker comes in and the story doesn’t get much better. He looks at me with disgust and does the same thing that the other worker was doing. My friend goes up to him to ask for an ackee patty, he turned his back on my friend and said “There’s no more ackee patties!”. But the crazy thing is there was ackee patties cause I was lookin at them. Now as a trans femme of Caribbean descent I know when Caribbean people are genuinely too busy to help you, and when they don’t want to take your order based off of an biases that they have. Both these men ARE HOMOPHOBIC AND TRANSPHOBIC. Going as far as to whisper about us among each other. So I left after being disrespected, ignored and treated like my money isn’t as good as someone whose cisgender. Once we left the woman behind us informed us that one of the workers went into the back and brought out more patties, surprise surprise some of them were ackee patties. So he lied! He knew they had more he just didn’t want us to get it. If you took the time out to read this, save your money. This place is not it!! I’m not going back there, and I hope my LGBTQ peers do the same. This summer, the juice bar started playing very loud music all day, blasting from a big speaker by the door. We, the neighbors, have politely asked to lower the music. Unfortunately, once the topic is raised, the owner shows no understanding, claiming that it's his business and he can do what he wants. With no concern for his neighbors...that it's THEIR problem. To the owner: Please understand that we are a community and we all have to do our part to get along (including an elderly sick woman who needs her rest). We have no ill feelings towards you, the bar and want you to succeed. But please consider being a good neighbor, and lower the music so we all can live in harmony. In an environment where overpriced smoothies and juices have become prevalent, it's refreshing to find a shop that's serving quality beverages with fresh ingredients. Each time I've stopped by, I'm impressed with the array of fruits and vegetables that are visible as my smoothie is being prepared and not hidden in a back kitchen. Most notably, the value this place provides is hard to beat. I usually opt for the medium size which is typically $8 and each size upgrade is about $1 more. The only variation in my experience usually depends on who's working on that particular day. Sometimes the staff is helpful and ready to answer questions, other times they can be a bit terse.
