Abuela’s Empanadas — Restaurant in New York

I bought from their truck by Ikea in Rego Park. If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered the chicken, chicken with cheese and beef empanadas. It’s a total waste of money!!! Don’t ever buy from here! I will never recommend it anyone. Disgusting!

The chicken were just shredded meat with food coloring and no seasoning. The beef empanada filling was sour and the ‘meat’ didn’t seem like meat for human consumption. It was tough, crumbly and had a chemical aftertaste. FYI owner of the food cart- if you’re ‘sanitizing’ your meat with cleaning agents, Don’t! You can’t wash rot away! A beef empanada from this cart on Austin Street was the first thing I ever ate when I moved to NYC. Y'all, it was GREAT. The local who insisted I had to grab one as we walked by absolutely knew what he was talking about. Abuela's Empanadas was my introduction to the fat-kid status that would come to describe the entire time I lived in New York City as a Midwestern transplant, lol. I still remember my eyes popping out of my head as I realized how good this was and that if this was what I was getting from a random food cart, I'd want to try every restaurant...

I can’t believe the lady stole $8 from my mother!

My mom asked for two spinach and cheese empanadas and the lady told her that they were only two left. Because my mother always sees her truck, she paid her and told her she would pick them up after she gets out of the clinic (didn’t want to take food into the clinic). Low and behold, the truck was no longer there (yesterday). Today my mother went back and the truck was there but with a different lady.
