True Flavors in Queens: A Taste of the Caribbean!
True Flavors quickly became my go-to spot for delicious Caribbean food. The flavors are amazing! Here's what I tried:
Aloo Pie: This golden beauty was packed with perfectly spiced potatoes and chana (chickpeas) for a satisfying and savory treat. The tamarind sauce added a tangy touch that perfectly balanced the richness.
Mac Pie: A must-try for any comfort food lover! Creamy mac and cheese enveloped tender jerk chicken, making for an explosion of flavor in every bite. The pholourie (fried dough balls) on the side were light and fluffy, perfect for dipping in the creamy sauce.
Roti with curry goat: The roti was perfectly flaky and light, the ideal vessel for scooping up the rich and flavorful goat curry. The curry was bursting with warm spices and the goat was melt-in-your-mouth tender.
Pelau: This fragrant rice dish was packed with deliciousness. Chunks of chicken and vegetables mingled perfectly with the seasoned rice, creating a satisfying and flavorful side dish.
They even had fresh kuchela (local greens), shado beni (chadon beni), pepper, and cucumber on the table for that extra bit of Caribbean flair.
Overall, True Flavors offers a delightful and authentic Caribbean dining experience. The food is fresh, flavorful, and portions are generous. I highly recommend...
ย ย ย Read moreIโve read the reviews and the owner really sticks by his marketing strategies online which is great. But letโs talk real life. I lived in queens all my life. Ate at many Carib spots. The popular and the unpopular. To say his marketing strategy and food he puts out is equal is totally false. First they donโt pick up the phone for the order so I can ask the necessary questions. I ordered thru Grubhub for pick up. The Chinese style chicken was DRY and BURNT just by looking at it you can tell.my husband was mad and threw it in the garbage and said Iโm not eating oil and rice and dry chicken no sauce Chinese style at all. Very disappointed. Shrimp wonton is mixed with chicken and filler canโt tell what tastes like what. The roast pork is more like a stew. Inedible I didnโt even give the dogs any of it. I did however order another pork skin dish and that was better. The Hong Kong shrimp is a pass. For the price point Iโm expecting bigger shrimp. Plus this shrimp had a bad after taste. If your ordering shrimp and broccoli from a regular Chinese restaurant itโs much better than this. Not to mention salty! Its definitely wasnโt no crowd in there. I do have to mention the stars are for the doubles and I have to say itโs on point than most popular places! That I give you...
ย ย ย Read moreFirst, let me start by saying that this was my first time ordering from True Flavours. I had a last minute work affair and we needed food. Nikki took my order and did so with urgency so as to ensure that we had it in the time that we needed it. Since they did not participate in delivery we sent a lyft and she was generous in walking the order to our driver. Let's get to the food, so we ordered curry chicken, curry potato, dhalpurie, macaroni pie and jerk chicken. The food was delicious. I would recommend that you give them a shot! As we will continue supporting their drive to provide great tasting food to us food lovers! Special thanks to Nikki for calling me back and dealing with my numerous calls to you, as you are an asset to...
