I came here to enjoy a nice, simple dinner. Everything went relatively well (food reviewed further below). The problems started after we left. After the charge was posted on the card a few days later, it was considerably higher than what we put down on the receipt (we have our copy so we know what we put down). When we paid on the day of our visit, the bill included a 15% service charge and we wanted to add an extra tip to make it 20%. It appeared the restaurant put an extra 0 at the end of the tip when charging the card and as you can imagine, it was way higher. I called right away and was told a manager will reach out which he did a few hours later. After some back and forth, he offered to Zelle me the overcharge amount by the end of the day. Well, that never happened. I had to call again the next day (twice) and ask again for my money to be returned to me. It finally was and honestly, if it were Zelled when promised, I wouldn’t be writing this. I understand mistakes happen but what irked me is that I had to keep calling for them to return MY money that THEY took from me without my consent.
Another issue I noticed when I got the receipt on the day of our visit (and that’s something that was pointed out by another reviewer), is that when they bring the receipt, they include the 15% service charge which is fine by me. They then suggest different gratuity amounts underneath (something like 18%, 20% and 25%). After they swipe your card, they bring another receipt where they again suggest the gratuity amounts but the problem is it is based on the previous subtotal amount which includes the 15% service charge. As a result, the new suggested gratuity amounts are way higher than they should be. I find that problematic and together with my unfortunate overcharge experience, leaves a poor image of business practices of this establishment.
Now onto the food:
Appetizers: Dusted chicken wings in BBQ sauce (they were great, we really enjoyed them), Cajun fried calamari (they were standard fried calamari, there was no Cajun flavor in them but they were nice and crispy otherwise).
Main: Rib eye steak and NY strip steak 14oz (we ordered them medium rare, no complaints here, good flavor). The sides were a disappointment. We ordered sautéed vegetables but they looked and tasted like they were boiled. Another disappointing side was the French fries - they were just stale and greasy.
I really wanted to like dining here and was looking forward to come back but the whole experience was disappointing and frustrating. The management just needs...
Read moreI recently visited Affy's Premium Grill with my family, expecting a delightful dining experience, given its reputation for quality. Unfortunately, what we encountered was far from premium, leaving us profoundly disappointed and questioning the value for money.
We ordered two New York strip steaks, anticipating a succulent, medium-cooked delight accompanied by sautéed vegetables and mashed potatoes. However, mere minutes after ordering, our food arrived suspiciously fast. This was our first indication that something was amiss. Our skepticism was confirmed upon the first bite: both the steak and vegetables were shockingly cold, as if they had been pre-cooked, neglected, and then hastily reheated. The steak, which should have been tender and juicy, was tough, and the vegetables seemed like a lackluster afterthought, barely warmed through.
The mashed potatoes, a staple side expected to be creamy and comforting, were hard and unpalatable. The quality of the vegetables was underwhelming, featuring a meager assortment that seemed more like a frozen mix than fresh produce.
Adding insult to injury, the restaurant imposed a 15% gratuity, a standard practice for parties of certain sizes but hard to justify given the dismal quality of the food and service. Furthermore, a simple request for extra mushrooms for my child, who loves them, resulted in an additional $6 charge, which felt exorbitant for what should be a minor customization.
The overall experience was disheartening. The quality of the food served at Affy's Premium Grill was nowhere near what one would expect for the price paid, nor did it live up to the "premium" in its name. For a meal that should have been a pleasant family outing, we were left with a taste of regret.
For anyone in Long Island looking for a Halal steakhouse, I strongly recommend considering alternatives. Based on our experience, Sam's Steak & Grill in Valley Stream offers a far superior dining experience, where the quality of the food and the attention to customer satisfaction are evidently higher priorities.
In summary, our visit to Affy's Premium Grill was a letdown. The restaurant failed to deliver the quality and service that justify its pricing, leaving us to advise potential patrons to look elsewhere for a truly premium...
Read moreThis isn't the first time I've been here but I must say today was an horrible experience! My friend and I both ordered the short ribs but mine had nothing but fat and bones. After several minutes of looking for any part that was edible and failing. My friend told me to send mine back. I told them that I was unable to eat it and the waitress apologised and took my plate to the kitchen.
A few minutes later she returned with an Asian lady (Pardon me if I'm mistaken). This "manager", I presume begins to tell me that it is actually considered prime steak in most restaurants and that is how it is. "The chef told me this is how they all are" she said. Well obviously not because mine was not like the one my friend had. I told her I still couldn't eat it since there was no meat on my bones and the waitress took my plate of ribs and fries away again. Did not ask me if I wanted anything else. After we were done, my friend saw that they had still charged us for my meal. I asked the waitress why and she told me that it was not up to her and that the lady in charge said she had to charge us.
Charge for food I couldn't eat? which I complained about right away? Which they took away without informing me that I would still be charged for it? When I asked the same lady as she returned with the waitress why they were charging us, she went on with, "well this is how all restaurants do this" how many restaurants have you worked at? She continued by saying "It's like you going to KFC and asking for a bucket of chicken and complaining that breasts you got were dry". Then she asks my friend, "well your food was good right?" What difference did that make if mine wasn't?
Most definitely not a way to speak to customers! I did not go to KFC! Going to a restaurant and expecting something actually edible is not asking for too much but apparently it was. I finally say "so basically you're making us pay for something I was not able to eat"? She said "Yes because our chef said it was fine"!
The waitress was not the problem, I believe she tried and was somewhat helpful but the "lady in charge" needs to understand that this is not how the restaurant industry works! You do not pick and choose which customer to be nice to! Everyone deserves equal service experience and satisfaction!...
