Anise is a gem. For $12 you get a lunch that includes entree, rice, soup, a drink and a spring roll. Fortune cookie with the check. It is near impossible to beat this combination anywhere else in The Bronx. You may find a bigger selection (Golden Corral or another buffet) but the food will be bland and poorly done. This food is done right. The kung pao chicken, was lean, crisp and without fat or gristle. The spring roll was light and fried precisely. The vegetables were beautiful and delicious from the baby corn to the mushrooms and zucchini. This is the best venue to host a business lunch in Riverdale and in the Bronx, outside of Little Italy or Throggs Neck. The other two locations will be far more expensive and have little to no parking. City Island also. I strongly recommend this for a business meeting or a delicious lunch.

There are a dozen asian places in the area and its difficult for a business to truly stand out. These guys nail it. Every dish I tried so far is knocked out the park. Flavors are bold and the food doesn’t leave me feeling heavy like other local Chinese take-outs. They quickly became the staple take out for my family when we’re craving Chinese for dinner. I never dined in, but even their service at the counter during pick up is top notch. Little gestures like being offered a complimentary drink while waiting goes a very long way. You can tell they deeply care about what they do and it shows both in the flavor of the food and the service you receive. I really hope this place is here to stay as I am here to stay as a regular. Thank you!

I ordered their sesame chicken. It was disgusting. The chicken was over fried and tough to chew. The sauce was disgusting and definitely not the sweet sesame chicken flavor. The egg roll was extremely greasy. They forgot to pack my rice. When I called, a woman picked up the phone was extremely rude. She kept over talking me and the only solution she offered was to pack more rice the next time I order. Who said there would be a next time? When I asked how could she assure that, she proceeded to yell “fine we’ll Deliver it to you”. Just overall negative experience.

I wish Google would give a no star option.. but here it goes.

Let's start with the obvious and most scariest issue I have with this establishment ...when u sit down they immediately serve a bowl of crispy noodles and if u don't touch them they recycle the noodles for the next customer (COVID) no no!!

I've been a customer of this establishment way before the name change and the renovations. Before its name was Hunan Balcony. Tho the place was very outdated and at times kind of run down the food was great. But after a few disappointing incidents I can 100% say I WILL NEVER set foot in this place. The food is always cold, the fried rice looks as if leftovers were packed up and served nicely. I was there 2 weeks ago and was served some dish which clearly did not taste nor looked like the original chicken in garlic sauce I've order for the past 10 yrs. It was more like a slimey sauce drenched in Apple cider vinegar. My husband's sesame chicken had raw pieces and the broccoli was not even steamed and when we informed our server she insisted on asking us if we were sure of what we had ordered? Umm sesame chicken is universal dish at any Chinese restaurant so is Chicken in Garlic Sauce. Then she proceeded to speak to the mgr and when I wanted to send the food back the chef came out and began arguing with the mgr and the server. All 3 of them kept making remarks and pointing at our table. I wasn't sure what was said because it was not in English. When the server finally decides to clear out table she didn't stack the plates as they usually do instead she took the dishes individually as if she was going to be saving it to serve another guest. Made me wonder why the last time I order fried rice I found a eggnoodle in my rice. 🤔

And the icing on the cake was when I asked for the bill.. she insisted it was our fault bc maybe we order the wrong dish. I paid 45$ for basically a a can of Coke n Sprite because that was the only thing we consumed straight frm the can because they had no ICE and she had the audacity to ask me for a tip!!!

I wish I was making all this up but this was really happening at what use to be a great restaurant. Like I said...

My experience with Anise Chinese Kitchen was one of the worst I've had with food delivery. When the delivery driver arrived, he knocked on my door so hard that I thought it might fall over. The loud knock startled me so much that I nearly had a heart attack. The driver seemed frustrated because he didn’t know how to use the video intercom in my building.

To make matters worse, he scammed me out of a dollar by claiming my food cost more than it actually did, and then he didn't seem happy about the tip I gave him. I was so confused and anxious from the loud knock that I forgot to check the receipt because he walked away. He kept talking about the amount of the tip I gave him and then began speaking in Spanish which is not his first language.

Additionally, the person who took my order was very dismissive and wouldn't let me finish my sentences, which I found to be unprofessional.

To top it all off, my order was wrong, and I had to wait an additional 30 minutes for the correct item to arrive. I strongly advise caution when ordering from Anise Chinese Kitchen due to their terrible service and...

Every few months I give in to my craving for Chinese food and Anise has a Sliced Chicken with Baby Bok Choy dish I enjoy so I order it as a lunch special, along with a lunch special of Broccoli with Garlic Sauce (2 lunch specials easily = 3 meals). I've been ordering these dishes from them for several years and always ask that they use rectangle containers (rather than the tiny round container they normally use for lunch specials) and have always been told "Sure, no problem." Today when I ordered and asked for the rectangle container, the woman who I spoke with rudely said "It's the lunch special, that's the container. You don't like it, you can buy a rectangle one, they cost $1.50 each". I politely explained that I wasn't asking for a larger quantity of food, just a larger container and asked if the restaurant had changed their policy. The woman rudely started yelling "You are a liar. We never do that. You are a liar". Suffice it to say, I did not order from them. I fully support our local businesses but, when one of them calls me a liar it's difficult to...
