Brooklyn Habit — Restaurant in New York

Beautiful, calm space, friendly staff, great espresso drinks made from La Colombe, and I love the seats in the front corner window for people-watching - what more could you ask for?

Okay, I will say that the only thing missing is food. They do have pastries and donuts from famous shops (like Doughnut Plant) , but I don't eat carbs and sugar so I can't get any food here.

Location - Brooklyn Habit is a little out of the way which is both good and bad. The bad - it takes longer for me to get there by bike due to all the one-ways and dead ends. The good is that the place is in a random spot between the Gowanus and the above ground subway. I tend to feel a little transported when I go here - like I'm taking a brief trip out of the hustle-and-bustle of New York for a little calm downtime.

I am fortunate that there are so many great coffee places in the neighborhood. Having said that, my favorite place for coffee seems to change every couple of months. Right now, Brooklyn Habit is my #1 choice but I do mix things up and go elsewhere every few days. I highly...

Good coffee, but questionable business practices. Their sign indicates that they are open until 11pm. I decided to bring a date there for a late coffee- we arrived at 10:15 only to be rejected at the door with the greeting "uhhh, we're cleaning up right now". I could understand this might happen it it was 10:45 and the place was empty, but it was still 45 minutes until listed close time, and other people were inside enjoying drinks. I wouldn't exactly expect to be served food at this time, but to not even serve COFFEE at a COFFEE PLACE 45 minutes before closing time on SATURDAY NIGHT? Didn't even get any real apology or anything! maybe...

I do like this place; physically a great space, very clean etc. Andrew, who I normally see, is awesome , friendly, just an all around cool dude. However, I did just witness the owner/manager openly berate his cook in front of staff and customers. Definitely ruined the vibe. I’m always down to support local businesses, and it’s cool to have a place that is walking distance, but that incident made me think twice about ever giving that man my money again.
