I’ve been several times over the last 2 years since they opened and am friendly with one of the owners, Tony, who is lovely, so it pains me to say that the service here is consistently a terrible experience every time. Drinks don’t come in to-go cups when requested, pre-made grab&go food like croissants are not included when you pick up your drink order, and everything takes so long. You have to ask where your food is 10 minutes after your drink is called and they “sorry I forgot.” Once I brought my mother-in-law here for breakfast and after 45 minutes, everyone else at my table had finished eating and my avocado toast hadn’t even been made yet. This was my experience today: my friend’s to-go coffee was made in a to-stay mug, she had to ask for her croissant a few minutes later and was told “you didn’t order one…oh wait sorry here you go” and I similarly had to follow up for a slice of carrot cake from the display case that I ordered for my hangry toddler, and after waiting 10 minutes for my simple bagel and cream cheese, I was told that there were still a few other orders ahead of mine so I’d have to wait. I replied saying that I’d rather just get a refund because the service is so slow and we need to leave soon and the woman replied with so much attitude reiterating that there were several orders ahead of mine. The experience reminded me why I never come here despite living nearby. The experience at every single other coffee shop in the neighborhood is lightyears ahead of CUP and I hope this is something management can work on, so the experience and quality of...
Read moreI have been looking for a coffee shop in to call my new home, since relocating to the area from the Pacific North West. There's so many around this area and they all offer their own unique vibe. When I came across CUP I liked that the space was specious, it was packed, and their closing hours are 6PM.
I went in during late lunch hoping to not find it so busy, but I was wrong. I decided to order and figure out if I would stay or just walk back home. My first interaction was with the Barista was very welcoming and warm. She noticed that I was uncertain what I wanted so she offered some suggest. I opted to go with a latte with hazelnut (my usual is drip w creamer). I also ordered a turkey sandwich. After ordering I looked around for a seat, but it was pretty packed. Then out of nowhere another employee (later I learned she was the manager), tell me "hey you want me to pull a table from outside?"
This team kept impressing not only with their great customer service but ability to connect with their customers. You can tell people enjoy they space, but they love the staff! Interactions with customers seemed to be like that of old friends. As for new customers they make you one feel welcomed an accepted. The barista and manager work as a team, both making drinks taking orders, and supporting their guest.
I'm glad I came in and experienced this place, this is def. my new home away...
Read moreThe staff and owners of this establishment are very kind and friendly people. However, service is abysmal. Staff are frequently on their phones either behind the counter or absent sitting at the front, no one knows how to pull a consistent shot, and the food quality is good…just never readily available nor prepped on time.
Example: I went in today and purchased a cold brew and a lemon pound cake. They decided to use the same cutting board for active meal prep to set aside the pastry. So it is ridden with poppy seeds from a bagel. The staff member who was doing prep was also using the board while on her phone.
The establishment feels like if the DMV added a free Wi-Fi lounge waiting area. Most people seem to only use the space for work-from-home days, and the counter itself is starting to fall on hard times.
This has not always been the case. The shop opened with great efficiency and stayed that way for its first 8 months of operation. Since then, shifts in staff, changes in community utilization, and the like have decreased the quality of both trained staff and goods issued.
There just simply needs to be better training and customer service provided. Because everyone is very nice. Just please, please stop having employees constantly on the phone and have baristas ...
