Went there on my way to work cause I live nearby and always pass…looked like a nice place. It’s very clean and well decorated. I ordered a large oat milk caramel latte and was offered an extra shot of espresso. The way it was offered suggested it was complimentary…it was not…they charged me $1.00 without telling me…and another dollar for the caramel…and .75 for the use of oatmilk…7.75 That’s my regular coffee order nearly every day and I very rarely pay over $6…and if i do, it’s usually delicious. The latte tasted pretty bad and burnt and the oat milk wasn’t foamed at all but was unusually hot. I also ordered a bacon, egg, & cheese on a roll which was sitting out in the open and room temperature but they heated it up in the back for me so I guess that’s good? It tasted pretty good but like…it’s bacon, a dippy egg, & cheese on a toasted brioche bun…pretty hard to mess that up. And it cost $9! Order came to $18.24! For a bad, surprise-fee coffee and a sandwich that was sitting out! The pastries there look low key delicious but alas with that experience and their prices I don’t think I will be returning...
Read moreThis is "Yes, Chef" worthy! Top notch, but not top $. Had excellent chicken slices and roasted vegetable sandwich $10 in 2022. Two thickly sliced white meat was moist, not greasy. Veggies incl red bell pepper, onion, mushroom, a green leafy, laying on pesto on quality fresh roll. Iced latte used Brooklyn Roasting Company beans (bags also available for retail). Chose to customize top off with half and half at coffee station. Excellent back patio garden had 4 tables besides the indoor seating now open in 2022. Do not tell everyone - that's my seat! Got a round unsliced loaf of sour dough to take home($9 c. 2022). Their pastry chef has credentials and grace us with a selection I will sample again. Fan of lemon tart and chocolate buttercream, but I will keep going back for such variety. Gorgeous! Instagram photo ready for our close up... Next week they have a pop up dinner. Menu for royalty at Downton Abbey?? Aug 5,2022. My next lunch choice is their update on cold borscht, but they call it something less eastern...
Read moreI found Der Pioneer on Google map when I was looking for a place for lunch near Prospect Park Tennis Center. The reviews of this lovely Cafe were helpful and on points.
The staff was warm and helpful. The cafe had their tables space out and that made us comfortable to eat there. You can look into the kitchen through the big glass. It’s spotless clean.
All the baked goods looked attractive and delicious. There were good selection of sandwiches and soups. My husband had a tasty Alaskan smoked salmon sandwich with whole wheat bread. I had chicken vegetables soup and a vegan mushroom parsnip soup. The cafe used all fresh and high quality ingredients. The mushroom soup was umami. I also bought one to take home. The chicken soup was very good and tasted homemade.
We also had cappuccino and cortado and a canale after our lunch. Good quality coffee. The canale was crunchy on the outside and moist inside, one of the best canales in NYC.
Der Pioneer is a gem. Wish it was in my...
