Gelateria Gentile — Restaurant in New York

This Italian gelateria is very cute and has a very nice selection of ice cream and gelato. I was super impressed with their celery gelato, as it is made with real celery and they somehow managed to make it taste delicious. They also serve coffee and other pastries. There is limited seating available but it seems like most people were taking their orders to go.

Despite their delicious gelato, we had a very unpleasant experience at this location and it was due to the extremely rude manager at this location. I came here with a group of students and nuns as this was supposed to be a treat for the student volunteers. One of the sisters asked if they were able to give the group a discount. The manager rudely replied no we don't do that, the issue is not that she denied the discount it, was her extremely rude and unprofessional demeanor towards the sister. We went ahead with ordering and there was a question about the prices, once again the manager at this location spoke to the sister in a very rude and inappropriate manner. I have to highlight that the other employees that were serving the ice cream were extremely nice and friendly. It's really a shame that a manager is treating customers in such a rude and condescending manner. The atmosphere here is really wonderful: the workers here are welcoming and know their regulars and are super great with newcomers and recommendations, their descriptions of the flavors are accurate and extremely helpful for people with allergies and texture issues and they’re really nice. Came here after work with some coworkers and it did not disappoint. The flavors aren’t too sweet and very creamy but they do change a lot. A big shoutout to the workers there, the one with glasses and tall guy made us feel like family (Sinon and Carsin). People complaining about the price don’t realize it’s actually cheaper than the other place and they don’t use dyes or preservatives, so you’re paying for something organic, can be pricey but definitely worth the $8 a cup. We used to come to this location almost every weekend with our 8 yr old son. The flavors used to be interesting compared to Amorino across the street. However, they don’t rotate their flavors as much as they used to, and when it’s hot out, their gelato that they scoop out of the fridge is almost melting. Their service has gone downhill too. One of the staff did not provide us with proper amount of gelato when I ordered 2 flavors in a small cup. The first flavor was covered flat on the small cup, but the second flavor barely covered the top of the first flavor. I told her the portion of each flavor was not 50/50. It was more 80/20.
