I have certain expectations for a 4-star hotel. This place met none of those.
We arrived early, greeted warmly, and were given our room keys. We were informed only one elevator was operational. We carried our own bags to the room which I thought was odd. Even the Uber driver loaded our bags into the car. We waited for the single operating elevator for what seemed like an eternity, but in actuality was 10 minutes. Unlocking what we thought was our room we were met by another individual, whom I thought was a guest as she never identified herself and was extremely rude. I would be too if strangers had walked into my room. We mentioned it to the housekeeper who greeted us after departing the room. She went back to the room, returned and stated simply, "that room is not ready." We proceeded back to the front desk after waiting for an additional 10 minutes for the elevator only to find that was the housekeeping supervisor and the room was now ready. That could have been handled much differently.
Finally arriving back to the same room we left 20 minutes prior, I noticed a faint smell of mildew, like in a basement, except on the fourth floor. My partner dismissed it. The room itself is small and dark. Tastefully decorated, but showing significant signs of wear.
Off to do what people do in NYC after walking the stairs as opposed to the elevator. So much faster.
Coming back for the evening we stopped at the bar to enjoy a night cap. Great vibe. Good drinks. Love the live jazz.
We returned to the room with the AC running. It sounds a lot like standing next to a jet engine. Which I've actually done. Tucking in for the night the sheets felt damp not wet, but as if they were hung out to dry overnight then covered with dew the next morning. I noticed the wallpaper pealing next to an AC vent with rot in the ceiling molding. I can only imagine from excess moisture a d not something that developed overnight.
Getting ready the next day my clothes felt that same dewiness.
The shower is large. The water is hot. The shower head sucked, unless something other than spray is your thing.
We were too busy and too late doing those NYC things to complain. Speaking to another exasperated guest on the way out, the elevator had been an issue for at least a few days.
We returned to a freshly cleaned room. The same faint smell of mildew still there. The remainder of the trip was more of the same dewy feeling. The towels never dried from the previous day. It was odd. I mentioned it to a less than interested front desk clerk.
My expectations here are different than a stay at a national 2-star brand. I've stayed in much better 2-star branded hotels. This was disappointing. We won't be back. Thankfully there are other options in NYC, you may want to choose one of those.
Update on this review. I used the travel site from my credit card to prepay for the hotel. So I was not sure what the Director of Front Office was referring to about waived faculty fees, until I check my credit card statement. I had given them a different credit card for what I thought was incidentals. They in fact processed the entire stay on that card, thus charging me twice. I called the hotel, they said that they had caught the error and the card will be refunded in 10 days. I have taken the rating from 2-stars to 1, only because I cant leave...
Read moreAs a seasoned traveler who spends around 50 nights a year in hotels, I’ve had my fair share of experiences, but my recent stay at The Walker Hotel Greenwich in Manhattan was truly exceptional. Having never stayed here before, I can confidently say that this charming hotel has earned a loyal guest in me.
I decided to book directly through the hotel’s website, which I highly recommend. While third-party sites like Expedia might offer a slight discount, they often lack the personal touch and responsiveness that come with booking directly. If the savings aren’t substantial, it's worth the extra investment for a better experience. After making my reservation, I came across some mixed reviews. However, noticing Jonathan Quezada’s thoughtful responses to guests, I reached out to him with my concerns. His prompt and reassuring reply, along with an offer to switch rooms, made me feel valued, and I’m so glad I took him up on it!
Upon arrival, the hotel exudes an elegant, European charm, reminiscent of a quaint brownstone mansion. The lobby feels like a sophisticated library combined with a cozy club room, and I loved the complimentary water and warm apple cider available at the front desk. Check-in was seamless, and despite arriving a bit early, my room was ready shortly after completing the paperwork.
Meeting Jonathan upon check-in was a delightful surprise. He generously offered us complimentary amenities that enhanced our stay: a restaurant credit for dinner, breakfast for two the next morning, and a small minibar credit for late-night snacks. His kindness, coupled with my enrollment in the hotel’s loyalty program, was yet another reminder of why booking directly is so beneficial.
As we made our way to our room on the top floor, we were greeted by a breathtaking sight—the door opened to reveal a step-out balcony with a stunning view of the Empire State Building, perfectly framed against a clear blue sky. It was nothing short of enchanting.
The room itself was beautifully appointed, featuring a cozy desk, a spacious armoire, and a Bluetooth sound system with convenient charging ports. The bed was incredibly comfortable, adorned with soft, sumptuous bedding that felt five-star. The decor was exquisite, but the pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the view and balcony, which made us feel like we were on top of the world.
The bathroom was almost as impressive as the bedroom, boasting a sunken tub that was the largest I’ve encountered outside of a spa. At 6’2”, I could fully stretch out without my toes touching the end. After a long day of sightseeing and meetings, soaking in that luxurious tub was the perfect way to unwind.
In the evenings, the lobby transforms into a cozy lounge, complete with lush sofas and bistro fare, providing a lovely backdrop for live music. The atmosphere was soothing, and I highly recommend trying the thin-crust pizza—it’s delicious and perfect for a light bite before a romantic dinner.
Breakfast the next day was nothing short of spectacular. From the fresh fruit salad to the house-made lox, every dish was prepared with care and attention to detail. It was a delightful way to start the day.
I can’t wait to return to The Walker Hotel Greenwich, and if you’re considering a stay here, I wholeheartedly encourage you to book it. You...
Read moreHorrible experience. Booked with them and wanted to pay in advance bc it was for my partner and his boss while they were working Fashion Week. They sent me a credit card authorization form which I filled out and sent to them. The whole point of doing this was for a smooth check in, in fact it took 6 emails back and forth bc it was a PDF and they claimed it wasn't filled out correctly. After confirming it was set assumed things would be smooth boy was I wrong. The front desk agent Johnny humiliated Elijah when he arrived. Kept telling him the card hadn't been charged and he didn't have the card on file when I had proof it was charged, I called Johnny and sent him a screen shot. He didn't offer elijah a water or coke he took an hour and a half to find it. Then with no apology finally said he could check him in. It was so horrible Elijah left and got another hotel nearby. I disputed the charges and 6 weeks later without my authorization they pull out another 600 dollars. When I called to speak with a manager I was told by Irvin he was the manager and he was rude and unhelpful, I asked to Speak to someone else and he refused. I emailed and didn't hear back. We ended up paying much more last minute at Incentra Village House which is much much nicer with real working fireplace. Working with fraud department to dispute the charges which is a 15 day process.
This paragraph is added a year later. After my bank was able to prove they doctored the charges after an argument and they had no proof of the stay bc Elijah left they had to put the money back in my account but I am not kidding a year and half later 1500 dollars came out of my account from this hotel. So I am disputing again with my bank. Basically Elijah stayed there a day or two out of a week reservation bc of how rude they were and they charged for the whole original booking. They ended up reversing my banks decision a year and a few months later. They provided proof of a stay. I am not sure what proof there was. So we ended up paying 2100 total dollars for a two day stay where Elijah was made to feel extremely uncomfortable. Elijah made a huge break for working at fashion week but he is very young and not from NYC tnis was the point of me filling out all their forms and giving the cards over fax so his stay would be comfortable. It was not only bad service they way they did the bill and deducting thousands a year later was criminal. But suing in NYC would be too costly: maybe if I get back there soon I will file a small claims against them. I have proof they were paid 600 dollars for his two days plus some other charge then somehow they were able to get...
