I ended up at SPS by coincidence, even though I belong to GSAS. To be honest, the quality of my Master’s in International Relations has been extremely disappointing — every day I regret making this investment. However, I have to acknowledge that my experience at SPS has been one of the few positive aspects during this difficult academic journey.
I want to express my deep gratitude to Dr. Kissane. She has always treated me as one of her own students: kind, honest, and transparent about the current realities of the field and how to grow as a professional. Although NYU has far fewer resources than it claims, she has consistently looked out for me, and I truly feel lucky to have met her. Having someone as accomplished as her care about a student like me has been genuinely moving.
During the summer program, I didn’t expect to have to carry my old computer to my internship. Even though NYU policies are very restrictive and students can’t keep loaner laptops for more than three days, Michelle D’Amico tried to find solutions for me. Eventually, we both discovered how little support NYU provides to students from diverse backgrounds.
