Coming here on a rainy day is definitely a vibe.
The design and decor of the entire restaurant is unique, lots of popular musicians from Hong Kong and other posters all over the walls. The front counter is also decorated very nicely, with different items that make you feel as if you're really in Hong Kong.
There's a decent amount of seating, and the restaurant is very clean.
The staff is kind and considerate, and brought out the food very quickly from the time of ordering.
My personal favorite dishes were the beef chow fun and hot and sour soup. I paired it with a HK style iced milk tea and found it really complimented my food.
I tried the salmon rice ball, however, it was too over stuffed with rice and fell apart in my hand. I like that it was big and all, but I would've preferred it if it didn't fall apart while I was trying to eat it.
I felt the pricing vs the portion was okay... The food was very good, but paying $12 for half a plate worth of food felt unreasonable. I've tried HK style restaurants in Brooklyn, and I paid far less for twice the amount of food, so much in fact, that I couldn't finish it all, and had enough to bring home for leftovers. I feel if the prices matched the amount of portion you get, then sure, $12 would make sense. But not for half a plate of food ...
Overall, I found my first time experience quite enjoyable, but I think I will continue to travel to Brooklyn for HK style food in the...
Read moreI took my family and my sister in law’s family to try out this 4.5 rating HK style restaurant today. Kids were so excited to hang out together . However, this place didn’t live up to our expectations at all. I reserved a table of 7 and arrived on time. We were placed on corner table with cheap-looking bifold chairs ( no back rest) . With no doubt, the bifold chairs are just as wobbly as they looks like when we sat down. We have 2 toddlers and 2 small kids and the restaurant owner better have her fingers crossed our kids won’t fall down from these chairs . We requested a few times to be reseated in the empty table with half booth and half regular chairs, explaining these chairs are not too good for kids in their ages. We just need our kids to be safe. Can we have the booth that is open? She rejected our requests as bluntly as she could ( mostly like owner). She claimed that empty table is reserved! Well, guess what! I have RESERVATION too. This place have no accommodation to kids. We didn’t get to order any food but was fed with angers. HKS don’t deserve our visits and business. I will spend my money elsewhere. We drove to PHO rainbow (8 mins away). We had an amazing lunch there. The owner was so sweet, she gave each kids a kinder egg at the end of meal. She made our day. Wish giving no star is...
Read moreI've been a loyal customer ever since I discovered this restaurant. It was a Japanese restaurant before called Shishito and now it's under new management and team called HKS Kitchen. It serves Hong Kong style food and Chinese cuisine.
Their food is always delicious and tasty. I'm very sensitive to MSG and I approve this place does not make me thirsty afterward. They serve varieties of Cantonese, Hong Kong style street food, some of the most popular and common HK street food are HK-style Milk tea, HK style French Toast, Pineapple bun with butter, satay beef with ramen noodles, curry fishball...and more, etc.
Besides the food deserves 5 stars, the owner of HKS Kitchen, Raymond(Oyster) definitely deserves a 5 star too! He really cares about every customer, always listens and takes opinions/feedback, he never stopped improving, never stopped learning, and he is always out there chatting with customers but at the same time, he's asking for your honest advice and thinking how to improve his restaurant. He often creates new recipes and tries new dishes to add to the menu. His work ethic and attitude have my full respect and made me a loyal...
