I’ve been going to Lloyds in Riverdale for years now. Service has been good until the passing of the owner. I’ve noticed a change. I still was set on giving this place my business. The last 2 years however has been disappointing dealing with Lloyds Carrot Cake company.
Last year I placed an order for a birthday cake. I specifically asked for certain colors on the cake. I received an email that the order would be processed the way I asked. When I came to pick up the cake it had completely different colors than I had asked and the writing was sloppy. It went outside of the borders of the design of the cake. Instead of someone calling to tell me the colors I requested wasn’t available they waited until I got there to say something. And that was only after I complained about the cake. I still paid for it when I should have left it in the store. Trying to give them business and the benefit of the doubt.
Decided to give Lloyds another shot. This year I placed an order online waiting to receive an email confirmation. Never received it. I called a couple of days later only to be told the online system isn’t working. You think they would specify that online or shut it down all together. Instead people can still place orders that never go through. If I didn’t call I would have come the next day thinking I could pick up my cake. I get a lame apology. I proceeded to place an order with SugarGirl bakery whose cakes are phenomenal by the way. The workers do exactly what you ask! Cakes are pricey but well worth it. My red velvet cake was literally ready the next day and beautiful!!! Lloyds had the nerve to email me the same day I placed an order with Sugargirl to tell me the online system is working now and I can pick my cake up. Really?!!! Naw too late I gave my business to SugarGirl and it was well worth it!!!!!! Lloyds please do better. Your cakes are good, customer service is terrible!!!!
Also Stop and Shop cakes are better. The workers engrave your cakes as well. They offer carrot, red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, etc. There are always other options be mindful of...
Read moreOk while searching for the best carrot cake in nyc for my son who just turned 13 this weekend but really is an old timer on the inside requests this cake for his big born day annually... this place repeatedly came up in every message board and article that was produced for this half healthy half decadent cake. So of course had to travel the 50 min car ride to get this elusive creation for my kid.
They offer a plain just carrot version and a version with walnuts and raisins. My preference would be the nuts and raisin one but since I was feeding more than myself and plus it was the birthday boys choice so plain carrot it was, however in my own style of reading I had to also pick up a few individual slices of each cake and also a vanilla cake with pineapple filling with coconut cream cheese frosting too.
So the verdict....
YES! BELIEVE THE HYPE! This cake was oh my lort delicious. The ONLY criticism everyone that had it said was that they really should make it a layered cake and put some of that amazing cream cheese frosting between layers in the middle. Maybe it can be special ordered that way?? You can also custom order cakes a few days in advance and they offer other flavors like red velvet and pineapple filled out chocolate frosting filled too. I liked that the cake wasn't leveled to death and made to look very home made. I did think it was odd that they had all the cakes made and already tied up to go so you couldn't see whether or not the cake or frosting had any issues. 1 star off because they didn't layer the frosting and their cake decorator was not available to after 2...but still a delicious cake and we'll be back for...
Read moreI’m a little confused as to what the rave is about. My first time trying this carrot cake and I’m a little disappointed. I was expecting a lot more, being that its New Year’s Eve and i had to wait on line for hours just to get the cake. So i called the place and asked if i can place an order in advance and they told me they dont do orders. (Strange) They said I’d have to come in, first come first serve. I came around 10:30 am and they told me to come back at 12. I came back at 12 and waited on line. The weird part is that what ever sells out, sells out. Even if you wait on line! The line goes out the door and down the block! So you can be waiting on line for no reason. Its ridiculous. They don’t have a number system or anything. It seems like they really dont care. The 2 guys behind the counter were very confusing, poor customer service. They were letting people purchase over 3 at a time and when we got closer they told us sorry we cannot allow more than 2 per person now. But they let the people ahead do it, that’s unfair.. you’re supposed to make an announcement to the entire line that you can now no longer purchase more than 2 and sorry for the inconvenience. The cake was fresh out of the oven; which was great. I just finally cut it and it’s nothing special. The cream cheese frosting tastes like regular generic brand frosting and the cake itself doesn’t have enough flavor it tastes a lot bland to me. Luckily i got nuts and raisins to give it some type of flavor. It is better than boxed cake obviously, but not enough to stand on line and wait hours and deal with unprofessional staff....
