In general, I don't really give new restaurants a try. I'm usually aware of when a new one has opened up, but I stick to what I'm familiar with, even if that may sometimes lead to being bored with what I eat. It's mainly because eating at restaurants can get pretty expensive, so I try to stick to the groceries I buy.
For quite some time I've heard of how great Korean fried chicken is. I tried a different place a few years back and I wasn't very satisfied with it, but I still wanted to give it another try at a different restaurant. I really didn't know too much about this place, but I've been hearing a lot about it and I've seen it every now and then while running errands, so I felt like giving it a try. It could be because I know that restaurants are suffering thanks to the pandemic, but I also felt like splurging a bit and trying something new at the same time.
Right from the start, I liked how easy and quick it was to make an order. It was less than 10 minutes for me to make an order. I'm sure that waiting 40 minutes for your meal to be ready for pickup may seem like a bit much for some, but with how much I ordered, I was fine with the amount of time I had to wait.
It's clear that good customer service is important to this restaurant and its workers. I didn't expect to get a phone call to let me know that my meal was ready for pickup, but that's exactly what I got.
As soon as I got there, I was being taken care of and I was out of there in less than 5 minutes. To me, this is important because of the pandemic. The restaurant looked clean and its workers did a good job in wearing masks, so I didn't have a real reason to want to leave ASAP, but I feel safer not sticking around to public places for too long during this pandemic.
I liked how organized everything was. I got a pretty sturdy brown bag and everything came in its own container. It was easy to tell what was what and I didn't have to guess what I was reaching for.
One of the first things I noticed once I took the food out of the containers was how fragrant everything was. You'd think that it'd all mix together, but it didn't. Everything maintained a great smell that lingered in the air. That may make it seem as if an offensive odor was in the air or something, but it wasn't.
Besides the food's fragrance, it all looked and tasted very fresh. The fried chicken wasn't overly fried or greasy, but it was still incredibly crispy. I ordered parmesan fries as well, but they really didn't have a parmesan flavor. Everything else about them was still good.
I forget which sauce I got, but I thought that it was kind of thick. Maybe it was meant to be used as dipping sauce, so that may be why I found it difficult to spread over the chicken. Despite that, it was still tasty.
Alongside the parmesan fries, I bought dumplings. They were tasty, well spiced, and looked appealing, but they weren't filling at all. I'm sure that it's because these were just meant as a side dish, but I've previously had dumplings that had a decent portion of filling in them.
Overall, I thought the food and the service here was great. It's possible that I'd feel more strongly about the service had I actually dined in, but I don't see myself doing that for quite some time.
I was left thinking that a lot of thought went into the food because of how well it tasted and how fragrant it was. I'm sure that it's because I ordered a decent portion of food here, but I still thought that it was somewhat pricey. It was pricey, but I don't feel as if I was robbed or anything. I got what I paid for and I felt that the quality was there.
I definitely want to order food from here again and I'm especially interested in trying out their grapefruit beer, but it may be a while before I come back. It's not because the food was bad, it's because your arteries will thank you for giving...
Read moreI have been to plenty of restaurants in my lifetime but this is the first time I have ever had this type of experience. I was on a date night and have been looking forward to coming here for a while and boy was this place a complete disappointment. This review is about the lack of communication with the waiter, and kitchen. It really ruined my dinner because I did not get my dinner.
Mad for Chicken is a very large space with a full bar. They were busy but not that busy at all on a Friday night. We were seated right away and everyone was polite and friendly.
I ordered their chicken drumsticks with chicken thighs. The waiter said chicken with wings. I corrected him and showed him on the menu what I wanted and he repeated my order and said ok. I also ordered truffle French fries. My other half ordered their Spicy chicken sandwich that came with fries plus a Kirin Ichiban.
10 minutes later the spicy chicken sandwich came out and it was hot and looked delicious but it was not my dinner. I of course told my other half to eat and enjoy his food while it was hot. I waited for an additional 5 minutes for my dinner. When my dinner finally came out it was not what I ordered it was chicken drumsticks with wings so I returned it.
At this point, I still have not received my truffle fries. I think if they would had brought my truffle fries, waiting for my correct order would not have been so bad because we would be eating together. Now about 20 minutes later. I do not think that the waiter communicated with the kitchen about my wrong order. There was no immediacy to bring out my correct order. The kitchen was sending food out to other tables while I was waiting for my correct order, plus truffle fries. My better half finished eating his dinner and I was still waiting for mine. The waiter said nothing to me about my order. What would you do? I was so annoyed I just wanted the check because we came out to eat together. I ended up watching him eat then he was going to watch me eat whenever they decided to bring out my order.
What a waste of time. Even when we were leaving the women in the front asked us what was wrong, and we told her. Her response was next time it will be better. Ok, there will not be a next time for...
Read moreLooking for flavor… left wanting more. Fellow maps peeps. These reviews are written to inform and provide a perspective that’s unbiased and direct. My partner and I had a crazy craving for some Korean fried chicken and on our way to a known spot we love we passed by this restaurant and saw that it looked really nice and organized, there was a huge sign that advertised an all you can eat but we just wanted that Korean fried chicken. We decided to try it out. We parked and were greeted by a kind hostess who sat us down in these really long wooden benches that are oddly very comfy and southern looking. The atmosphere of this place is proper. Clean, spacious and it has a southern touch that you don’t see in a lot of joints in the city.
After we sat down we ordered a drink on HH got ourselves a margarita to share as we were not interested in drinking but decided to give the menu a try. Margarita was so strong and one dimensional, felt like there was only tequila and lime juice that we had a few sips and left it on the side.
We ordered the avocado salad to start, the kimchi fried rice and a 10 piece drums & thighs.
The avocado salad was fresh and delicious
The kimchi fried rice hit the spot while we patiently waited for the main star (fried chicken)
We had high expectations and when the chicken arrived we noticed that yes it was cooked to perfection. BUT the batter and the chicken itself was so plain. It had no flavor whatsoever. Idk what happened when the chef was making the mixture but it lacked absolutely everything even a bit of salt would’ve saved the perfectly fried chicken.
The meat had no flavor even a quick brine would’ve been helpful. I think the place is relying too much on their tossed sauces that the batter just doesn’t receive love.
Please guys don’t let this place go to waste. Try the food before sending it out to your guests.
Disappointing but hoping to come back to...
