Mara's Ice Cream Parlor — Restaurant in New York

I want to start by saying that I love Mara's Ice Cream. I love the flavors, and the variety. However, I don't appreciate the way I was treated there. The staff is not friendly to those who live outside the neighborhood. Anyone who looks or acts like they are from the Rockaways is given a discount. While I went in dressed for an upcoming party and wanted to stop on my way to the train station for a snack, I was obviously dressed nicely and was well put-together. I ordered my standard order, which is very minimal and only had ONE add-on in addition to the ice cream itself, which was two small scoops. I didn't order a pint, or anything fancy, and was not even given full scoops. The price was ridiculously high. I hate to say it but I wouldn't recommend this ice cream parlor to anyone from out of the neighborhood, or if you're just dressed well. It's sad that I was treated in this manner. You will be judged based on how you look, and the pricing will be according to this judgement rather than any set prices. If you're just visiting, skip out on Mara's. June 23, 2025 around 6pm I came into this shop with two children and waited in the line just like everyone else only to not be acknowledged by not one of the three employees behind the counter. When myself and the two children made it to the front of the line, every single worker behind the counter serviced the customers that were behind us. I have never experienced anything like this before. The kids were excited about getting ice cream and were very disappointed with how we were treated. One of the children even questioned out loud why the people behind us were getting ice cream and not us (because it was our turn).

This was today 7/13/21!

I usually order 2 scoops of coffee ice cream in a sugar cone and my boyfriend likes the strawberry milkshake made from their strawberry ice-cream!

Or now I order the “salted Carmel truffle ice cream, medium size, with Carmel sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry on top! Yummy! It is a delicious 😋 sundae! 🍨
