Deceiving & Disappointing. Don’t come here if you’re hungry.
Me and my fiancé stopped in here for dinner after a movie, the atmosphere was inviting for the most part but closer inspection revealed things that disturbed our appetite. The decorations on the ceiling were caked in dust and the windows were covered in grease and finger prints, not to mention the fly that landed in our sushi roll.
As for the food, it was upsetting to say the least. After asking about the contents of the chicken Teriyaki entree and deciding to order. I was presented with a sloppy unprofessional, sorry excuse for a high end entree. I have been to many Japanese restaurants where a Chicken teriyaki entree means; a large portion of sautéed chicken and vegetables, a side of rice and sometimes a salad. At Mito, the Chicken is accompanied by 1 and a half pieces of baby asparagus, a mini onion and half a carrot, all of which were soggy and undercooked. As for the chicken, the breasts themselves looked like something you would buy precooked from the freezer at Walmart and heat up in your microwave, it barely got attention on the grill and squirted all over my plate after a cut it with 2 forks ( as I was not given a knife.) The crispy mashed potato’s were plain and uninteresting, I enjoyed the texture but I would’ve preferred something that was more fulfilling. The Teriyaki sauce itself was too sweet for my taste and came in a side saucer, meaning none of the food had any seasoning before the sauce. All of this was valued at $26 on the menu. Comparing this dish to other restaurants makes it extremely over priced, and the portion sizes simply don’t equal charging that much.
The sushi was great especially the California roll when compared to other restaurants that offer it at the same price point of $7 dollars. As for the fruit fly found in the out Cucumber rolls, we alerted the waiter and he told the sushi chefs first and then either the owner or manager of the place sitting at the bar. After this he went into the kitchen and returned with new rolls and said, “it was a fruit fly.”
I will give praise to the spring rolls as they had a great taste and were crunchy. Overall, I hope they can improve on quality of their entrees and reevaluate their pricing on the menu. I would say to avoid this place if you have other options.

Read moreUPDATE: ordered 2 chef special rolls from here on uber eats that were nearly half off. They tasted a little weird, even though I had priority delivery and arrived quickly. I was hungry and ate them anyway. The following morning I ran from bed with the worst case stomach issues I’ve had in recent memory. I’ll spare the details, but I got a terrible bout of food poisoning from Mito and will not be returning. Never going through this again. No wonder they were nearly half off. Shame on you guys.
(OLD REVIEW) Fantastic. Some of the best in Bayside I’d say. Delivery is great and in-person is great.
The crispy duck roll was very nice and actually arrived crispy for delivery. The Triple Three roll was really fresh and a nice portion.
In person, the restaurant is spacious with high ceilings and really cool decor. We’re talking huge reed lantern fish, samurai paintings, creative minimalist embellishments and mood lighting to boot. The music is low and relaxing.
The sashimi and sushi here are fresh, but on the expensive side. I do wish that the platter used to serve the variation combo was chilled though, as the sashimi gets room temp pretty fast. I’ve found that cold stone plates are great for this, as opposed to the plastic/resin they are using here.
Other than that, Mito cares about the details and it shows. The roe on top of the rolls isn’t your typical tiny orange roe. Instead, they’ve chosen a considerably more plump roe with a beautiful red color. Not overly briney either. Even the ginger, which is overlooked at most places, is given a chance to shine. It’s tender and has a pleasant mild taste as opposed to the super astringent chewy stuff you’ll find elsewhere.
Very pleased. I’m going to leave it at 5 stars because of all the boxes they check. Hopefully they consider chilled plates in the future.
Oh, and the bartender makes a...
Read morePlentiful private parking lot, yay! This place is large and comfortable with indoor and outdoor dining rooms as well a large bar situated away from dining. It is nicely decorated in a modern vibe.
Proof of vaccine was requested today on 8/25/21 which thankfully we had with us because I forgot all about this new requirement.
I will combine experiences from two visits. We enjoyed a booth indoors but if it's a mild evening I can't recommend the outdoor patio enough, it was perfect the night we dined out there. Restrooms were reasonably clean and roomy with a trash bin near the door to use your towel to grab the door handle and discard towel easily on the way out (thank you). Sanitizing station near entrance and again outside restrooms. Maybe more but I missed it.
The chefs platter of sushi and sashimi which was fresh and delicious. Salmon and short rib entrées were also delicious. Upon was a hit. Edamame was a refreshing start. As was the BBQ spare ribs, four of them, quite meaty and tasty, and easily stripped off the bone if you wanted to use utensils and keep those paws clean. Scallion pancakes were a touch greasy but oh so crispy and delicious that we didn't mind. Tempura platter was good and crispy.
Get the kids a Shirley Temple and don't skip the hot tea, I believe it's a green matcha.
For dessert, the mochi was enjoyed and the coconut treat was outstanding.
The service was friendly and plentiful.very accommodating.
If I had to complain about anything, the Seafood Arugula Salad longed for seafood. Instead of chunks of seafood, it was shredded and scarce. It would be perfect for the lighter eater (unfortunately I am not) because it was quite tasty nonetheless.
This place was previously a decent Italian restaurant but Mito was a welcomed change because there are many good Italian...
