The item I ordered was the signature folded cheese burger. In terms of overall score I'd say it was personally around a 3 based on the burger alone, but that would convert to a NYC 5. This place wouldn't be my first choice, but I'll get something if I'm hungry, nearby, and there is little wait time.
The burger itself was pretty decent; it had a nice crisp edge similar to a smash burger and was fairly juicy and cooked properly. However the seasoning distribution was inconsistent as the edges were a bit salty and the center was a bit bland, but it's not a huge issue. The add in like the cheese, pickles, and vegetable added to the overall item but at the bottom of the pita as expected. The sauce was a decent touch but nothing that really sets it apart from all the different burger places in NYC. To me, it is just an okay burger and nothing that is any better than your average place in NYC.
Cost-wise it was surprisingly reasonable for a restaurant in Chelsea Market at ~$15 before tax. The quantity is decently filling if you're not a big eater but the flavor itself mostly makes up for the quantity. For a store in the Chelsea market, I could think of worse places to spend my money for food.
The service itself was not bad, but the wait time was actually terrible. Maybe it was a rare day, but waiting 40 minutes for a burger isn't something I would consider normal. Even for a busy store on a weekend, I've never waited more than 20 minutes for a burger at any other place in NYC. What I was told is that they ran out of pita and had to wait for a batch, but I consider that poor inventory forecasting on their end considering how busy this place usually looks. To give an example, my friends ordered some food at the Indian food store nearby that was equally as packed and they were able to get their food, eat, and meet up with me 10 minutes before I got my burger.
Overall I would consider returning if I'm nearby and it seems like I can get a burger in around 5 minutes, but I personally would consider going to other places...
Read moreAn incredible take on a burger, the immaculate Folded Cheeseburger!
During my trip to New York, I did a little bit of prior research. Thanks to a video by Strictly Dumpling, he recommended having a specific burger from this Israeli spot within the the Chelsea Market. He placed a lot of focus on a specific item on the menu, the Folded Cheeseburger. The concept peaked my interest so I made it a mission to have this burger while in New York.
When we got to Chelsea Market I was quite disappointed as there wasn’t as many interesting spots as I expected. When I finally found Miznon, I was putting a lot of hope into this being amazing, and amazing it was.
Service at this location was great, those in the kitchen and those taking orders were all friendly. The burger did take a little time, but it’s understandable because it’s made extremely fresh and you’ll reap the reward of waiting a couple minutes.
As for the burger, where do I start. It’s served in a Pita that is perfect. i’m usually not a pita guy as the ones I’ve had tend to be quite dry due to the exterior, but this place gets it right. Toppings such as tomato and lettuce are fresh and do not make the burger soggy, and thanks to the shape of the pita, the bottom stores all the juices and best parts of the burger into a juicy final bite. Then the patty; an extremely well-seasoned hefty beef patty that is folded to hold the most melty gooey piece of what I assume is a Mozzarella, it makes for a Burger experience that you’ve never had before.
Overall, come get this burger, I didn’t have the opportunity to try other dishes at this establishment due to my length of the trip, but this burger was a big food moment for me and I think others need to...
Read moreI had a bad experience at this Miznon. Just for context, I'm a fan of Eyal Shani's cooking in general, and I've eaten as Miznon many times. Normally the food is excellent, and the vibe of the place is very unique. The last time I was at this location, I ordered something that I've had many times, the Intimate Stew, bit into it, and wondered what the hell I was eating. Instead of the delicious, tender meat that's usually in the pita, the meat was chewy and tendinous, as if they pulled it out of the stew pot an hour or two too early. I brought this to a waiter's attention. I basically got a shrug. I then brought it up to another waiter and the cashier and got a similar reaction. The waiter said that I should talk with some woman who must have been a manager. I was hoping they'd let me choose something else, or at least recognize me as a regular customer, and give me some respect. When we told the manager, she simply said, "OK," and then walked away into a back room, never to come out again. I'm not sure if she had a personality disorder or just wasn't trained in customer service, but I've decided not to go back to Miznon. It would be one thing if I got bad customer service from one person, but I got it from four, each of which made me feel like some kind of weirdo jerk for complaining. The Miznon owners should seriously consider hiring people with better experience in customer service, especially in such a high trafficked tourist location as...
