Given the limitations known ahead of time, principally no elevator, the room and accommodations were okay. My room was on the fourth floor, so walking up was, well, a chore. I need the exercise. The thing is, if anyone is unsteady or old, these stairs aren't just numerous, they are steep and narrow. The room is comfortable with an ample shower stall. This contradicts something which I saw someone else complain about, but perhaps not all rooms have the same kind of shower stalls. It is narrow, as you can see in my photo, with the bed tucked snugly in between two walls. Operating the A/C, therefore, requires climbing over the bed. The room was clean, if a little tired in its decor. I've also read someone else complained about the loudness of the A/C. On W 15th Street, if not the A/C, you'll get plenty of noise from outside, and, for sleeping, I found the A/C drone to be quite pleasant. There is a veranda outside where you can sit eating their modest offering of breakfast. I only had juice and coffee, and a yogurt cup, choosing to have a brunch with family elsewhere. I found the veranda pleasant, but it isn't, as you can see in the photos, beautiful or anything. Inn staff helped me carry my suitcase up to the fourth. But the principal problems I encountered were with the staff. I offered to tip the help who carried the suitcase, and they refused. I did tip the staff each day $10. Alas, when they changed on Saturday, they did not provide new facecloths. It was late when I got in, and I was not about to go downstairs to get new ones, needing to climb back up. The phone in the room did not work. I tried to get change for a $20 in order to have for tips elsewhere, but they could not break that. In general the staff seemed tense. I won't stay again, and do not recommend the place.

We absolutely loved our stay at Chelsea Pines Inn. That said, you should consider other lodging if “steep stairs” are challenging (no elevators). Or those folks who expect a spacious lobby and/or large rooms. The hotel is charming and unique - and it’s location on 14th street in trendy Chelsea is perfect. Walking around the neighborhood in the evening is a delight (we had perfect weather). Sean Weathers was so helpful and friendly, and so were all of the other employees at Chelsea Pines Inn. (The staff is ready and happy to deliver your luggage to and from your room - which is strongly suggested given that it may involve five (5) floors (as ours did). Their back yard is a treat to experience - elongated patio with tables & chairs surrounded by trees & greenery in the concrete jungle of Lower Manhattan! The rooms at higher elevations appear to be larger, which for us was a selling point vs the climb and descent. If your a tourist, you’ll be out & about all day anyhow. After all, it’s not a beach resort!

What a wonderful and quaint hotel! Staff is wonderful and filled with information of places to check out. The rooms have their own theme of actors with their movie framed posters are hung in the room. My husband and I (on our honeymoon) got the actor Albert Finney. The rooms are spacious and adorable! Our room had a wonderful view of their outdoor patio garden. Their outdoor garden patio is so fricking cute and romantic! Unfortunately from the hurricane storm that hit here a week or so before us coming here ended up flooding the lower patio seating but we still had access to the upper part. There are beautiful plants, trees, and vines everywhere. Stunning! We look forward to coming back, for each anniversary, every year to this hotel and see what themes we get. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place and it's in such a beautiful part of the city!

95% of Expedia pictures are fake. Very misleading reviews and photos of rooms that don't exist in this hotel.

The room was cold. The TV only had one channel. (The guy downstairs gave us the list of channels and told us we were using the remote wrong. That advice was unhelpful, there were no other channels on the TV.) The room aesthetics and size obviously didn't match the online photos the tiniest bit. The photos were of really nice spacious hotel rooms; our room looked like a dorm room.

We expressed our disappointment and got offered the "nicest suite" which was better and bigger but still had problems. It was still cold. The TV still had one channel. The sink was leaking. We asked to raise the temperature, and they did, but it didn't help much.

The next morning we spoke to the manager and asked for a discount. He responded we had already gotten a discount because the rooms are normally $200. (I do not believe the room we got originally could ever cost $200 per night, it makes zero sense). He also said he had accommodated us well by giving us the nicest room (which also had a few problems and which we didn't want to have to move to in the first place). Totally ignored our complaints about there being problems in BOTH rooms.

Expedia said the hotel served breakfast. In reality, the breakfast consisted of some slices of bread, cereal, and artificial orange "juice".

Got a small discount, very displeased with the experience still. Do yourself a favor, don't...

The staff had a very nice personal attitude, but my room had no heating, in December. Throughout the night, the staff kept blowing me off instead of fixing it or even admitting that there's an issue. I regret not paying a bit more to stay at an actual hotel.

In more detail, I first noticed that the AC in my room had no heating mode, and asked the receptionist about it. The receptionist suggested trying to play with its settings, but after checking with the owner informed me that there's indeed no heating mode. The receptionist suggested another room, but alas, the two other available rooms also had ACs with no heating mode. Afterwards, I kept informing the receptionist that the room was completely cold, and she kept saying that she's turning up the general heating in the hotel, and repeatedly asked to give it just five more minutes (each time).

Needless to say, nothing happened, and the room remained completely cold. I slept poorly with a coat, beanie, gloves, and three blankets (which is less funny when it's the night before something important, as it was in my case). When I came to grab my luggage in the afternoon after check out, I asked about it and was informed that they're still checking it out, and "might call maintenance".

They actually charged me, full price, for a room without heating in December, and I don't know if they feel like honest people for that. I can't see myself going anywhere near this place...
